Does anyone here have kids with really long hair? How do you handle it? Here is a picture of Naomi's hair:

At only two years old it just about hits her bottom (it does when it is wet!) and it is so fine and has the most beautiful ringlets. I would give anything for hair like hers lol!

But it's so difficult to deal with. If I don't keep it back she gets so much food and stuff in her hair. But I don't like doing her hair every day and she doesn't like having it put back every day!

Also, how long will it GET? I don't know how this works but it just never seems to quit!

Amelia is 6 and her hair is very long, curly and semi-thick. It's beautiful and I'm jealous!

I just wash it every other day, trim it every 6-8 weeks slightly. I use detangler when I brush it. She uses my shampoo (Redken!) and it's much better than kids stuff, keeps it looking better IMO.

She doesn't want it up all the time, and I don't like to put it up all the time, because she'll get a kink in her hair like I did. I just make her tuck it behind her ears at meals, but I always put it up when she's out playing (ie, trampoline or when she has gym at school)

Yeah, I hated to go non-tear free so young but I had to switch her to Mommy's shampoo a few months ago so that I could do shampoo and conditioner. I also use Infusium leave in or else I can't even get a pick through it.

She's got beautiful hair!!

I had to keep Natalie's hair short while she was really young (it didn't grow until she was about 1, then it hasn't stopped), because she'd get food in it and would SCREAM when I brushed it. She's getting better about it now (she's 5) and doesn't get as much food in it, lol...so I'm growing it out - it's just past her shoulders now. I let it stay straight...occasionally I'll put it in a ponytail, and she likes having it braided, but I suck at braiding, lol - my mom did it a lot while I was in the hospital and it just kept so nicely!

I had hair that long at that age. My mom pulled it back into pigtails and ponytails most days, but yeah, there were a lot of tears and screaming during hairbrushing time.

my daughter is alot older but I just used a detangler as needed and I always brushed it when it was wet. I found using scrunchies instead of ponytail holders and not making it to tight left less of a dent/crease. You can always do sloppy buns with her hair while she is eating which is just taking the hair and pulling it back just a little above the neck twisting it loosely and putting the scrunchie/ponytail holder in her hair and leaving it so that you dont pull the hair all the way through.

Aubrey's hair was VERY (an inch from her butt) long and I was happy with that. I was wanting her bangs to grow out with her hair and we were SOOOO close to that point and I was planning on taking her for a haircut very soon. Well, I send the kids to my moms one day and I go back to pick them up and my sister cut Aubrey's hair VERY SHORT!! I was so fuming mad! Still am mad about it because I am still trying to grow it out.

Oh, but what I forgot to say was I did a sloppy bun in her hair when she ate (always carried ponytail holders in my purse) and a lot of the times if I knew we had some kind of event the next day where I knew her hair would get very tangled and messy I would just wash her hair before bed and braid it and it would be fine after she woke up and all the rest of the day.

I have NEVER had this issue, both of my girls have super fine hair and it was always short...Abby is 3 and she has only had her bangs cut and my oldest DD is 16 and still has issues with trying to get her hair to grow....but ai wanted to say it is BEAUTIFUL and I LOVE that picture...good luck

Oh her hair is so beautiful! Believe it or not, lexi's hair is just about to her bottom when it is wet but its so stinking curly it curls right back up to about shoulder length when it dries! I really should snap a pic of it wet one of these days LOL. Anyways- its a little different for me, but I find that the adult shampoos and conditioner works best for her. I wash it every other day and as soon as she is out of the tub we towel dry and SOAK it with leave in conditioner. Tangles are so not our friend LOL. Often I will put her hair up in several small ponies right after she gets out of the tub and she will wear it like that for a couple days before I take it down and wash it again- washing it more often than that seems to really frizz it out. Something that really helped me are these great hair-do blogs with tons of creative ideas: http://cutegirlshairstyles.blogspot.com/ (go back a ways she has a ton of really cute ideas). Anyways- maybe some of that will help :)

learn to French braid. That way rubber bands don't break her hair in the same spot. KWIM? Also, I learned from my dd that had hair that long, you don't want it to get much longer or it goes in the toilet ... yuck! ;)
