Well, what an eventful three days I've had!! I've had a lot of you ask me this because of my status on Facebook, so I'll let everyone know here! LOL

In a nutshell, my oldest DD broke her humorous (upper arm bone/elbow) in three places and was in surgery for four hours yesterday.

She was pulled off a picnic bench on Friday and fell. Her friends thought that she had a dislocated shoulder, so they called the paramedics (and me). When I got there, it was evident that it was NOT a dislocation. She was transported to the ER and they confirmed that it was broken and luckily, they acknowledged that they didn't have the capabilities to fix it here in this little town. So, they Life Flighted her to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City.

My DH rode with her in the plane and I came home to get some things packed and I drove the three hours to Salt Lake. When I got there, we were informed that she had to have surgery to set her arm. Basically what happened was that she broke the bone directly above the elbow, and then the elbow joint broke in half. She has pins and plates in her arm now to help it heal. But, the bad news is that she probably won't ever be able to extend her arm out straight because this type of injury causes stiffness in the arm.

Anyway, we are now home and she is in a soft cast and is on Perocet for pain and Valium for muscle spasms.

I want to thank you all who have PMd and emailed me asking about her. She is understandably in a lot of pain. Your PMs and emails have meant a lot to me and I appreciate so much all the love and concern that you all have shown.

Wow how scary. Primary Childrens Hospital is excellent though! She was in good hands. On a side note, if you have to go back to SLC go down to 735 West North Temple and visit Leatherby's! You will be glad you did. Order the Grandma's Sundae with carmel sauce! Glad she is home and hope she heals well. What an ordeal.

that is really awful!! My son fell a little over a year ago and broke both his arms at the wrist. They basically buckled when he fell because he stuck his hands out to stop himself from falling. Had to have full arm casts up to the armpits for four weeks then another four weeks in half casts to the elbow. Let me tell you it was not fun and I know how much he was hurting at the time so I can defenitely sympathise with you and your daughter at this point. Hope she gets feeling better really soon and that her arm will heal better then they are predicting!!

How awful! We've had some pretty serious broken bone issues here before but nothing that scary and traumatic.
Sending healing vibes.

Aww, poor girl :( Hope she heals up quickly. I know how much that sucks!

I had pretty much this exact break in my left arm back in 1991, it gets sore from time to time but not really stiff or anything. The doctors told my parents the same thing, that I wouldn't be able to extend it fully, but I can!

((((hugs)))) to you and your daughter!! I'm sorry to hear that she may not gain full mobility of her arm...I injured mine in a snowmobile accident a couple years ago and can't straighten mine (it was never broken, just jarred)...it's not fun, but you do get used to it I guess.

I hope that she's feeling better soon!!
