{{{HUGS}}}} I had that happen when I moved everything to a new EHD. Lost all the tags. :(

Vanessa -
Did you ever really use the tags? Seriously? When I had to recreate mine, I found that I wasn't really using the tags so much. So I greatly simplified what I was tagging and made it easier on me. It helped tons. Just start more simply with what you really need it for, and don't worry about tagging every little thing. Take it in chunks and do what you can. Don't let this program stress you out.

Yeah, I did use them alot, because I tagged my pictures that I needed to scrap, kits to use, etc.
I didn't get way down to the colors and stuff like that, it shouldn't take me forever to redo it because i was able to write down all my catagories.

That would suck. I have ACDsee and never seem to use it because I didn't want to take the time to tag everything. But I'm wondering if Darcy's method would work by simplifying the tagging. What categories do you use?

I use pretty basic ones,
Photos
CT Kits to Use
Not Used Kit
Themed Kits (then the categories for each)
Word Art (then the categories for each)
Alphas (then their colors)
Designers
Holidays
Frames
Photo Overlays
Seasons
Date Tags
Glitter
Flourishes
Scrap Kits
Sketch Templates (then how many photos, 1, 2, 3, etc.
Shape Templates
That's pretty much it.
My Designers, themed kits and wordart are the biggest ones, but I don't worry about getting all specific, I usually just stay within one kit anyhow.

You can find many different organizing styles already set up for scrapbookers at Digi Scrap Info (http://www.digiscrapinfo.com/joomla/acdseeesources/acdsee-photo-manager/organizing-styles)
I just downloaded the style that I liked the best directly into my ACDSee program and then I can get as detailed or as general as I want with my tagging. I'm so sorry you lost all of your tags, but this might help you get a jump start so you don't have to create the categories as well.

that stinks!
i mostly use mine for photos to scrap and so I'm going to backup right now and hope it's not corrupt... because that would be the worst (for me) to tag!

Losing the photo tags was what annoyed me. I use them a lot. My scrap stuff was over tagged in a way I never really used. It was nicce to be able to clean all that up. I just tag kit previews with color & style/theme and I have a complex set of alpha tags but nothing else. That was liberating.
I'd just finished tagging through Mar 2008 (thats about 8500 photos) when I had to back up everything & copy it all to the new EHD & the database corrupted. That was 3 months ago & I still haven't had the will to start over again. :(

I'm sorry Vanessa :( I had the same thing happen to me. I never recovered from it and just don't have the time to tag stuff. I ended up deciding that was okay because I really scrap mostly from one kit anyway and if a piece was a favorite then I remember where it is. I hope you have better luck in tagging stuff. I never did tag photos, that is a great idea and maybe I will have to try that!

I like the idea of tagging photos to scrap and whether you've used a kit.
My system is pretty straightforward:
Alphas
Fasteners
Frames
Stitching
Misc. Embellishments
Papers
Previews of kits
Previews - not kits
Masks/overlays
Templates
Quickpages
Word Art
I separated out the "basics" that I like to re-use - alphas, fasteners, frames, stitches, word art - because usually I scrap from only one kit when it comes to papers, flowers, buttons, ribbons etc.
For someone wanting to simplify even further, you could tag only those basics as "Favorites" you truly love and know for certain you want to use again and again.
Another thing I wished I had done was tag only one letter in each alpha.. I might do that as a sub-tag.. just to make it easier to browse.

I am so sorry that it happened to you! I know how you feel as I have been there as well and I never have started the tagging again. I loved the colour tagging cause I never had to sift through my bis stash if I was looking for something specific. And it truly annoys me when I am scrapping and thinking I could use a pink ribbon, it isn't in the kit I am using and then have to go through everything time and time again. Maybe one day I start again. I have created a list with my own categories I want.

Bummer girl. I would be really upset about the photo tags! Those are so helpful for fast picture finding
