Alright ladies so my husband and I are headed to New York to visit with his brother. We are leaving our 5 kids with hubby's parents and we will be in NY from the 21st through the 24th not long but long enough to do a couple fun things. We are hitting Chicago on Broadway and then a fancy dinner out with his brother and his GF. Anyway I am sooooo lacking in the clothes dept. I have a nice black dress I can take for the fancy dinner and Broadway show but like for just walking around NY and going to the night clubs that I am sure his brother is going to want to take us to I have nothing! Any thoughts on what I should get images and links are always a bonus! Thanks in Advance!

I pretty much live in jeans. I find dark jeans to be more "fashionable" than lighter colored jeans. Great for walking around, and pair it with a fun top and some heels for a night out on the town.

I'm a big fan of The Limited. You can find stuff to wear to work (if you need) but also fun stuff that pair with dark jeans and a sparkly necklace look awesome for a night out.

I love jeans with heels for nights out too. I don't know what the clubs are like in NY, but I remember from when I lived in London that a lot of clubs have a no-jeans dresscode. They usually let girls in anyway, at least if they were smart jeans and heels, but not boys (my poor brother came to visit me and had to go buy some trousers because he couldn't get in to any of the clubs). Some black trousers are always good if jeans are a no-go, again with heels and a funky top - with some color in, so you don't end up being all black! I prefer bootcut or slightly flared trousers that are quite tight on top and, but that's just me:) And if they are anything like the clubs in London: No trainers!

For walking around I would wear jeans and comfortable shoes (no heels), and a funky t-shirt of some sort.

I think that you might find some really nice things at Ann Taylor Loft or a store like that. Or...better yet, just go over to your Nordstrom (because i KNOW you have one of those!) and have a personal shopper help you. Give her a budget and she'll get you totally outfitted for what you'll need. I'll bet they have some great deals on some more summery clothes since it will still be pretty warm there.

I'll be going to NYC with my sil in November. My brother will still be in Kuwait, so I'm going to DC and we're going to drive over there!! I can't wait. I've never been to NY!!

Great Ideas ladies!!! I am terrified of shopping actually whenever I have to walk through Nordstroms to get to the mall I feel so out of place like everyone is staring at me wondering why this poor lost soul has wandered her way into any place besides "wal-mart" ;) LOL

I have not been to NY since I was 16 and went with my husband and his family for a quick trip to the city around Xmas time! It was fun and COLD. I hear NY in the summer is unbearably hot and that the smells from the subway are just gawd aweful.

Yea, going in August it is going to be HOT. HOT HOT HOT. The subway is going to feel like an oven. You think it's going to be cooler since it's underground, but it's not. The city itself retains a LOT of heat from the buildings and asphalt, so the temperature in the city is often higher than surrounding areas.

Shorts and tank tops are crucial for see the sights during the day. And sunscreen too!!
