So the time has come, I need to explain the way babies are made to my daughter. I have always said I always wanted to be open with them, and answer all their questions honestly. And now, it seems that time has come, I would have preferred it to be a couple of years down the line though..
She is seven and has known for years how babies grow in the tummy, and where they come out, and recently she has learned about the seed from daddy and the egg from mummy. But now she wants to know how the seed gets to the egg.. I told her that the sperm swims up to find the egg, and if it manages to get inside there might be a baby. I drew some pictures of how sperm looks and she was fascinated by the swimming part, so the questions stopped - but
I'm sure not for long:)
So I want to know if anyone else has explained this to little children, and if you have any advice on how to explain it without it being too much information. I don't want it to be a "sex talk", but at the same time I want to be honest with her. Any advice would be great!

Oh, I do not look forward to that. I know with just having a baby, we had to answer some questions for DS, but at 6, I didn't want to go too indepth.

I have no advice. I have not had overly curious children and aven't had to answer any blatant questions yet. DD was 8 when we had our last but she never really questioned anything. We are going to have the "woman" talk this year before school starts. She is old enough to start er period ere soon and I am soooo not ready for that. But like you we ave always had an open line of communication. I think that really helps. Answering questions as simple as possibel as they come aprobably work better then slamming the kid with all the inof at once. Good luck!!!!!!!!!

For both my girls I bought the American Girl book called the The Care and Keeping of You. It doesn't really address the sexuality part, but does a great job on how their bodies are changing and those kind of issues :) My 13 year old still reads it sometimes for reference on periods :)

Not yet! I did have to kinda explain HOW a baby got in my best friend's tummy. And she was cool with God put it there {my DD is 4 - so simple is better}. And then I had to answer questions on how the baby GOT OUT of her tummy. I said lots of pushing. And we were cool with that, too.
And I thought THOSE were tough. Man. At least you have some time to plan. It's when they catch you off guard. Oye.

I borrowed a book (http://www.amazon.ca/Its-So-Amazing-Babies-Families/dp/0763613215/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1249504544&sr=8-1) from my sister that was full of information & cartoony pictures. Kristen loved looking at it and was very interested in it all. I just gave her the talk a month or so ago and she's 7 as well. :)

Using a book is a good idea, I might try that. I think she is waay past the "god put it there stage"
When my brother was little, like 4 or 5, his absolute favourite book was one of those pregnancy books (not the kids ones, but the ones with the real photos) - I guess noone ever had to explain anything to him ;)

I didnt go into to many details but my daughter knew about how a baby was made when she was a little younger then yours because I was pregnant with her brother. Since then she and I have had alot of little talks and she took health class in school as well (she already knew everything they taught though from talking to me) I just answered whatever questions she had as she had them I think. She is almost 18 so that was a long time ago LOL
