I'm so paranoid sometimes.

Yesterday I took Madelyn to the dr's because she has this rash on the palm of her hand and her forearm. My first suspicion was that it was hand/foot/mouth, but she didn't have any sores in her mouth or her feet. It was itching and she was definitely letting us know that. Besides that, she wasn't really acting different, but she's got a history of allergic reactions so I wanted to be safe. Take her to the doctors, he says it's an allergic reaction give us some attarax and some hydrocortisone cream and sends us on our way. Tells us if it's not cleared up by Saturday to call back and they'll have her tested.

Well, today she wakes up about 2 hours earlier than usual, crying and cranky, not her usual self. I don't think anything of it because I'm cranky when I wake up earlier than usual. :p Morning goes on, we run a few errands, she falls asleep in the car on the way home. This child never falls asleep in the car. We get home I take her temperature and it's 102.6  Should I take another trip to the doctors or wait it out to see how she is tomorrow? I'm only concerned because of this weird rash...

I would take her back in I guess. I mean 102.6 isnt super high but with the rash and everything I think maybe it might need to be checked out.

I would take her in, too... I would rather be over cautious and known as a nervous mother to the doctor if it turned out to be nothing, but then you would know and not worry yourself sick! Her body is obviously fighting something...

Kylie had a rash similar to that when she was about 2 - started out on her hand, spread up her arm, and then around her trunk of her body...then she developed a fever - the doctor said it was a form of shingles (she had had her chick pox vaccine fairly recently before that) and her body was reacting to it??? There was nothing we could do for it (besides Tylenol), but just wait it out...fortunately, it wasn't itchy or painful to her.

It's better to be safe then sorry. Can you call your doctor's office and just ask them if you should come in?

Thanks gals...I needed that "I'm not overreacting" thing

I did call and talked to a nurse. She told me to go ahead and bring her in since her temperature was so high. The lethargic behavior was what really had me concerned.

Call and talk to the nurse and see if they think that she needs to come in. I use my ped's office's nurses A LOT!!! That's what they are there for!

Whenever I hear of Rashes and fevers I automatically assume Strep throat. I would take her in and see what they say. I am interested too in what it is.

glad you called the doctor. A fever adds a new symptom with the rash and opens up new possibilities. Hope she feels better soon and it is nothing too serious.

Well, they diagnosed her with hand, foot and mouth. We'll be popping Tylenol and Motrin for the next couple days.

Side note...she's been such a trooper with this. On the way home tonight she kept pointing at her hand going, "booboo, booboo Mommy. Owie." Then she'd kiss her hand. AWW!
