I think I'm ready to buy an EHD. I have been backing everything up onto DVD discs, but after losing a bunch of kits off of one of them, I think I'm going to do EHD & DVD backups. *sigh* Anyways...
Which brand do you have? How long has it lasted? Any problems with a particular brand or type in the past?
Thanks :)

I have five western digital EHD and I have never had a issue. My husbands was the first and I think it is about 4 years old.
He bought the first one and it worked fine so we continued to buy.
How in the world are you a digi scrapper without an EHD :p
Goodluck!

yes, i'm wondering this too. :D
i've had my 500GB seagate for 2yrs with no issues whatsoever *knock on wood* i also have a new 1TB western digital, but can't offer a review on that since i haven't gotten around to hooking it up yet. i need to soon though since i'm down to less than 40GB free on my seagate. the wd has been sitting on my desk (in the box) for like a month... maybe i'll do that this weekend.
i also use mozy.

My first was an Iomega 250gb dude. He is still running strong after almost 4 years, I just needed more space (now he's a dedicated photo drive).
The other 2 I have are both Western Digital. One is 500gb, the other is 1TB. They house all my photos and scrap stuff so that I have everything in at least 2 places. I also burn DVD's of my photos and I have burned a few dvd's of scrap stuff, but I'll probably stop that since I never go back to them (cuz they are in 2 places already).

I saw a 1 TB EDH for a little over $100 and it seemed like a great deal! I think it's a Western Digital. Seems like that's a pretty common brand or popular brand.
LOL about being a digi-scrapper without one! I have like a million DVD's and a notebook as a "table of contents" for each and that's really getting old! I'll probably eventually need a separate EHD just for SSD stuff! lol! I have like 10 DVDs of SSD stuff!

Good luck choosing, I have no advice except that I do NOT recommend Toshiba EHD's.

I'm really good about backing up my photos & layouts- they're in multiple places... but my scrap stuff- not so much. I have so much of it and have spent so much $$ on it, I really should be better about backing all that up, too.
I've heard about Mozy, and have to admit I've never looked into it. The only online storage site I've used is 4shared when I used to host my freebies there. I think I'll look into that and get an EHD. Why the heck not :)

The prices of technology amaze me our first EHD cost double of what the one I just bought. Always getting bigger and better

I've always bought WDs just because they tend to be the cheapest, though I have had one die. I also had an Iomega back in the day and it died after about 2 years, but at least it made clicking noises to warn me first! Honestly, they all fail eventually, so I'm not sure it makes that much difference -- just make sure it isn't the only place you keep your stuff!

I think mine is a seagate, I'm wanting to get a smaller one (more portable, not less gb's) to put my scrap stuff on as my hard drive is almost full

My current EHD is a Western Digital Elements 640gb and it works great & I haven't had a bit of trouble with it. I think I paid around $75 for it through buy.com back in February.
I also have an I/O Magic 250gb EHD that I got from Office Max several years ago, it still works but the connections on the enclosure are kinda loose so it is a pain to connect to the computer sometimes. My BIL (our techy person) said the actual hard drive is okay and when he gets a chance he can take the HD out and just put in my PC for extra space.
For online storage I use Mozy, it does take awhile to do the initial backup if you have a lot of stuff but once that's done it doesn't take long at all to backup new stuff. It's only $5/mo and they back up EHD's too, definitely the best $5 I spend a month so I don't have to worry about burning a bunch of DVD's! I've also heard good things about BackBlaze, I think their monthly fees are similar to Mozy and they backup EHD's too.

Definitely a Western Digital is the best. Do not get SeaGate... they are sometimes cheaper, but now worth the difference. I honestly think the only one I would buy is a Western Digital. I have a 500gb and 1 TB.
