Over the past couple month our dog Scout has lost quite a bit of weight. At first we thought it was a combination of stress(from all that went on this summer with us as a family) and increased exercise. He seemed more energetic and happy. But lately we noticed he's not as energetic and he really has gotten too thin. So I took him in yesterday and they did some bloodwork. They called last night and his levels were all fine. So they recommended xrays to rule out cancer. Our dog is only 5 and he is really our first baby. He goes with us everywhere and I have done so much training with him(I competed with him in obedience trials and took him to hunt tests). The thought of losing him is just unbearable. He is such a good dog and our daughter loves him so much. Please pray that he does not have cancer. Pray that it is something simple and fixable.

Oh no, Emily!!!! I my heart cries with you. I *love* dogs... I know the pain you are going through... my mom's dog, Lillie (9yr), has been in and out the vet and pet ER for a couple of years.... fearing she has cancer, but so far nothing has shown up. The waiting is the worst!!

{{{{{Hugs}}}}} and prayers sending your way...

Thanks Rebecca. I really appreciate it.

Here's a pic of him so you all can know who you're thinking of and praying for. His name is Scout:

Yes, he's a weim: loyal, sweet, un-ending energy, lapdog & slightly neurotic

I love Weim's, they are such gorgeous dogs. They're on my "wish I could have" list with a few other breeds. :) My girl is 5.5 now, and she's the first dog I've owned on my own. We had a scare with Lyme last year, and I SO know that feeling in the pit of your stomach. Jordan and I are both going to be devastated when her time comes.

Thanks so much guys. Well we got the call from the vet. No signs of cancer that they could see. They noted that the walls of his intestines appear to be thickened. But he said xray is not a good way to evaluate that. His recommendation to us is to take him home and feed him more food and see if we can't get some of that weight back on him. If after 2 weeks we see no improvement then we go back in for an ultrasound to see if his intestines are thickened. And if that's the case then we do biopsy to check for intestinal cancer. But i feel hopeful. He's home now and I just fed him his breakfast(that we were supposed to withhold this morning), threw in some extra bacon fat leftover from breakfast, am ordering some supplements to help him absorb more of his food. Phew for now. I really REALLY appreciate it!

That's great that they didn't find cancer. Hopefully he'll go back to eating and start to feel better! Good Luck
