Hi there! Welcome to your new and very addictive hobby. :)
Although it may not be the absolute easiest out there, I always recommend Adobe Photoshop Elements. You'll find it the most commonly used program, easiest to find help, support and fun tools for too. Adobe offers a 30 day free trial (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/) on their site.
I have a getting started tutorial (http://mistycato.wordpress.com/2009/10/03/creating-your-first-page-in-pse/)on my blog. If you try it and get stuck, just leave a note and I'll be happy to help.

i agree! i started w/ an OLD version of PS elements and it was fairly easy (i think it was even easier than the newer versions), but i now prefer regular PS just cuz i can control more things, but you def. don't NEED that version.
good luck and ENJOY! can't wait to see some of your layouts!

Another recommendation for PSElements...it's great for beginners (and there's so many things you can do with it, it's good for seasoned scrappers, too).

I will tell you how I learned....I bought this book (and it comes with a trial of PSE)....and it takes you step by step by step by step making all different kinds of pages for your scrapbook....and it has a digital kit on the CD you use in making these pages. The instructions are great!
Digital Designs for Scrapbooking by Renee Pearson...make sure it is the GREEN one

I sold my book to someone...and then when my kids started thinking about learning PSE... I went out and bought one from someone else so they would have it too!

Im a Paint Shop Pro girl. I love it and think it is super easy to learn. I taught myself everything by trial and error basically and there is not a huge learning curve. The only thing I would really say though is try before you buy if you can. I think most programs offer a trial version which allows you like 30 days to try it free then you would have to buy it to unlock it. Ohhh and dont by Scrapbook Factory software cause it sucks. Makes your computer drag and eventually freeze.

I definitely think that PSE is the way to go! If you start with you will be able to do lots more than with other programs..including using fabulous photo actions and stuff! i still scrap with PSE cause it's easiest for me! lol
