I'm running CS4 Extended, but I'm pretty sure that this "feature" is in regular CS4 too.

If I have a file open in PS, and then I have a windows browser open looking at digi kit files... if I find a file I want to open in the browser and I click + drag it to PS, PS opens the file as a group with the file I already have open. (Do you know what I'm saying?)

So basically, once the file opens in PS, it is now "stuck" in the group with the file that was already open. So in order for me to drag the file (say a button element) ONTO the other file (say a LO), I have to "unstick" the button file from the group and drag it to the side (so that the files are more side by side) - and THEN drag the button onto the LO.

Am I describing this very well at all? LOL.

This creates frustration for me b/c I'm so used to the "old" PS way of click + drag a file into PS and it opens NEXT to the file that was already opened, which means that I can just drag the new file onto the previously open file and I'm done.

So is this a preference in the new PS? And if so, can I change the settings?

I tried Googling, but don't know what to call this... Help?

There is a setting! Go under Edit, Preferences, Interface. UNCHECK Open Documents As Tabs & Enable Floating Document Window Docking. You may need to restart the program for it to take effect, but that should do it!!

Sometimes I really like the tab options, so here's something I do:

Open a new document.
Now drag just ONE of the group you want into PS.
"Pull" the new tab out of the group with the new document
Now drag the rest of the group onto the first one you pulled in

Does that make any sense?

This way, I can group lots of things using the tab feature, but w/o them driving me insane.
