I'm out of shortening, has anyone used butter in place of it? For Cookies.

you can...it's 1:1 ratio but if your butter is salted, I"d leave out the salt in the recipe if it calls for any.
do you have applesauce? that's a good substitute too :)

Nope, out of apple sauce. I have the little cups of pear sauce. LOL!

pear would probably work but for cookies I think I'd use the butter instead...cake would be good for the apple/pear sauce though! Make it really moist

The thing about butter is that it melts more than shortening, so your cookies might be a bit flatter and crisper than if you used shortening.
You can read more about the science behind it here. (http://www.goodeatsfanpage.com/Season3/Cookie/CookieTranscript.htm)

95% of the time I use butter instead of shortening. But like Darcy said...they will probably come out flatter.

I like to do half and half personally, good combination of taste and texture :)

I use butter for shorting nearly all the time.

They turned out good guys. Thanks.
They are suppose to be chewy, so maybe that's what the shortening helped. I don't know, it was the first time I'd tried the recipe, so it turned out good and we don't know the difference. :)
