View Full Version : Do you like free templates?

I do have one today to start week 5 of Capture the Season... but that's not why I am writing this note.
Since IKEA GODDESS announced her "retirement" from freebie hunting, I've been thinking about how Simple Scrapper could help fill the gap.
For the most part, the only freebies I personally download are templates. While there may be a stray alpha, paper set or what not that I love, my standards are so high and my need to be clutter-free so strong, that I rarely download any freebies that aren't templates.
So here's my questions for the peanut gallery on this cold (here in IL) Christmas night:
Would a templates-only community freebie area of Simple Scrapper totally rock your socks or be uber-frustrating?
Are you or a close digi bud or someone much cooler than myself also contemplating the freebie hunt?
Would weekly be alright or is ongoing/near daily what makes you swoon?

Hmmm, this is interesting, and I think it is great that you would be willing to do that.
My personal opinion is that I only download template freebies from a handful of places, and they are places that I go regularly. So I think that for me, it wouldn't really be worth your trouble because probably wouldn't use it much.
I am so way not considering chasing after freebies, and if you DID do it, I probably wouldn't check it daily regardless. I usually just hit up IkeaGoddess whenever I was bored to tears and looking for something to do (which, ok, i admit might have been twice a week).
Anyway, that is my feedback for you. Now I am off to check out your template. :)

Thanks Kellie. This is the type of honest feedback I'm looking for.

I would like it if you did that.
I think once a week would be fine..I would see no need to do it daily.

Once a week would be fine for me too but if at any stage you need extras to help with the searching I'd be more than willing to help out once a week or so.

I'd probably look once in awhile. I have an enormous template stash so I usually pull from my stash if I need something. I only checked IkeaGoddess' stuff once in a blue moon (once a month or so). I'm very picky and will usually only use templates from a few designers.

I would follow you, I loooooooove templates too, and I also used ikeagoodess to find templates :)
Kellie is it any chance you want to share your links to the places you look after templates?
I have never visited ikea goddess and I only download freebies from people I buy from - but I'm lazy that way. :p Actually that's not totally true - I think I downloaded a template from your site a few weeks ago and I'll probably go check out your new one! :D But I don't follow or look for freebies.
I would think about what purpose it will serve for you. I think the people that are true freebie hunters don't buy much of anything - so what will getting them to visit your site frequently net you? And is that benefit worth the effort? Just my thoughts.

Like you I only download free templates (the other freebies I only download from fave designers).
I'd love a weekly listing, daily is too often to keep up with checking.
THanks for considering doing this!!

I am now really interested in templates because of scrapping time constraints, so I am looking to build my stash and would love to find some high-quality freebie templates! :) I think weekly would be good. :)

Hmm... probably a few months ago I would have said, do it!!! Yet, my stash is so flooded with free templates since I thought, "why buy templates when there so many free ones"... But now I'm buying more and more templates (thanks to the genius minds of Cindy and Crystal and Janet :p) that I rarely download a free one unless it's so cool that I can't wait to use it...
Yet... you are on my google reader and every time I see you have a new post, I check it out... ;)

That's a valid point, but I don't sell anything at Simple Scrapper. I run on an advertising-only model so that I can keep all the content free. More traffic would hopefully mean more designers interested in buying ads.

This is great input girls. I am committed to doing something - still figuring out what form that will take.
I thought of maybe somehow combining best of freebie templates with best of 'for purchase' templates, since I don't normally include a lot of templates with my new release highlights.

I used to do only freebies, but no longer and now I never go looking for them. I hit up IKEAGoddess every once in a while when none of the templates I have will fit what I want, but that's the only freebies I download now other than ones from my favorite designers.

i didnt even realise ikea goddess was retiring, which shows how often i go there i guess. Templates are generally the only freebies i download, though i do have quite a stash so its only on the odd occasion that i would go looking for a freebie. Though Its good to know there is somewhere u can go when u dont like the look of any of your current templates and your short on cash to purchase any...

I actually don't use templates, if I do, it's VERY rare. I don't download freebies at all unless they are from some of the lovely ladies here, or some of the other designers I buy from. I know that makes me sound snobbish, but it's not. I used to be a huge freebie grabber in the beginning, but a lot of it was garbage and I ended up deleting every bit of it. I am very picky in regards to quality, so I just find it better for myself this way.
However, I do know a lot of people do use templates, and in this economy, people (including myself) just don't have the extra cash to go buying what they need. So while I would not use it, I know some people would, and it will help a lot of people who just can't afford, or don't want to, buy templates.
