Des sliced open his left index finger last week at work, with a grinder (that they use while fixing the huge haul truck tires for the mines). He severed a tendon or two, and we are heading to the plastic surgeon today for his finger to get all fixed up. Des had made it 34 years with no stitches or surgeries, and all it took was one little slip of the grinding gun that he uses every single day at work to change that.
We are not sure exactly what will happen today, Des has chosen to go in without knowing - he hates needles, hospitals, etc, so he would rather not know what he is in for, otherwise he may chicken out (or have a HUGE panic attack).
We are heading into Lethbridge today (about 2 hours away), since that is the closest place that can do the surgery. We are spending the night at a hotel since I have no idea what kind of shape he will be in after the surgery and I hate driving home in the dark (it's not a good road to do in the dark). We thankfully have awesome friends who are taking all three of the kiddos while we are gone.

I will update after his surgery when we are checked into the hotel. Thanks in advance for you all your thoughts & prayers.

well, we ended up coming home last night instead of spending the night, managed to make it home just as darkness settled in. The surgery was relatively quick, although Des had a bit of a panic attack before and during. So they gave him something, which made shopping after so much fun. lol
He is looking at 5 weeks recovery, he has to keep his splint on and he is already hating the thing. They curved it up so the tendons have a chance to heal without pressure, and it annoys him when he has an involuntary twitch.
The doctor said the damage was actually very minimal, the tendons weren't completely severed, which made things a lot easier.

Thanks so much for all your positive thoughts and prayers!!
