I think I'm in shock. I just broke my Point & Shoot camera taking a photo for my Project 365. It fell out of my hand onto the vinyl kitchen floor -- falling on the lens (which bent it so it won't retract). I can power the camera on but it automatically shuts off.

Thanks Beckie. Like I said, I think I'm sort of in shock. It's the camera that LIVES in my purse.

I am SO sorry. I'm always afraid I'm going to do something like this, but usually it's my expensive DSLR that I seem to swing around and want to bang into a wall! I have got to be more careful!

Oh, no! I can relate--I'm death to cameras. I think they cringe when they see me coming. In Dec. my last camera finally died in a drop off the kitchen table onto the tile floor, and I can't count high enough to account for all the drops and bangs before that. I finally wised up and bought a warranty with my current camera that includes coverage for accidents!

Ha, ha. Going to download the evidence off the card now. I was really in shock and couldn't even deal with it last night. I think my identity is so tied up in having a camera I didn't know what I would do. Does this mean I need a 12 step program?

Back with evidence: No, Snoopy was actually lying down and I wasn't trying to hold him with my other hand (which is usually what I am doing)! So it was all klutzy me.

I think I'm going to go to the camera store to see what if anything they can do.

at least it didn't damage the SD card. I hope the camera store can fix it!

I feel ya! I dropped my iPhone and cracked the screen on Sat. I just sat and stared at it for a full minute before I could comprehend! lol Even my 5 yr old patted my hand and said "awww, I'm sorry mommy"

I hope you can get it fixed or a new model soon!

My P&S is broken too, it was working fine yesterday but now the lens wont retract or anything. It is a Canon Powershot A470.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it as it is about 2 months out of warranty

No help, but that happened to my old Cannon PowerShot too. I had no warning. I'm sorry that happened to yours too.

Update: Still trying to figure out what to do. The camera store will charge me $35 just to give me an estimate. At this point since I just want something for my purse. I'm not sure I should invest $35 to be told what my bill will be. (and how much could that be when it's $35 just to give me an estimate?)

I will probably go out later in the week and see what options the big box stores have. Sort of hoping for another Pentax which could use this battery. That's sort of my other dilemma. I usually "need" a back up battery and I never seem to be lucky enough that the "new" camera can use the old camera battery.

Open to suggestions from anyone for something in the under $150 range (with a decent zoom).
