So I came home this afternoon from the day out with my mom and what do I find on my doorstep??? A puppy! A GIRL puppy! She looks semi-well fed and she's not afraid of us at all so undoubtedly someone put her out at the end of our driveway who didn't want to deal with her. UGH. It makes me so mad..so now we have to deal with her b/c she doesn't act like she's going anywhere soon. She's a big puppy..almost the size of my large cocker spaniel..she looks like she's got some lab in her..but she's NOT staying. We're picking up our new Basset next Friday. It just makes me furious that people do that. Maybe our vet will take her. People are dumb. She's a really sweet dog but we don't want a big outside dog right now.

Aw, that's sad. ...got any pics of her yet? LOL, I'm a sucker for puppies - I don't want one, but they're so stinkin cute, and if one showed up at my house, I'd probably end up keeping it if I couldn't find a home!

Well of course she's the sweetest thing and now we're going back and forth on keeping her..but that would put us at three dogs and TWO puppies..not sure if I want to take that on..my parents are "thinking about it"..so they may take her. She's very good-natured...and Avery has totally fallen in love with her.

Yep... she looks like a definite keeper. :) If I lived near you I'd come get her. She looks like a Border Collie/Lab mix. :)

I really want to keep her...but I just don't know if I can handle 2 puppies. She's really making me fall for her though. :(

I wish I could say for sure that one puppy is enough of a tornado that adding in another isn't a big deal, but having never raised a puppy on my own before, I can't.
But in my mind, it's not that much different. You'll be getting up every 2 hours or so throughout the nights if you want to housebreak the baby that comes next week (that's about all an 8 week old pup can hold it for), so you let this little cutie out at the same times. I grew up with 2 dogs, and it wasn't that much different than just having 1. You just do everything as a pair instead. Walks together, playtime together, discipline is the same - just remember to be consistent, etc etc.
She's the cutest EVER, I would totally keep her, lol.

Have you checked with the local agencies and vets to see if someone is looking for her? Just before you get too attached . . .

I'm pretty sure she's just been abandoned..unfortunately that happens a lot with girl dogs around here...we live out in the country and so there's really no way she could have found her way here on her own. I think we've finally talked my parents into taking her..if they don't we found a rescue league that will take her...they keep them until they find them a home. I just can't take on 2 dogs at once...especially with her being a girl. I hate to not keep her but I've got to use my head and not my heart :(

I'm confused as to why the fact that she's female is a problem?
I mean you're the one who has to live with it, and deal with it, and if it won't work then it's great you found other options, the whole "especially with her being a girl" thing just confused me.

I think the girl=bad mentality just comes from where I was raised...unfortunately out here, people don't usually have their dogs spayed/neutered...country folks just think it's a waste of money..so you see people battling their girl dogs in heat 2x a year by trying to keep them penned up which never works...you see packs of males following females around and males fighting like crazy... and then of course they end up with a litter anyway..they'll find homes for most of the males and then just like someone did with this one..they'll haul the females off and leave them somewhere. It's terrible..and then you get the people like us who are stuck finding homes for them...the ones who are tame enough to trust people..the others you see wandering around wild...starving mostly..it's sad. But we don't have any kind of animal control out here so there's not a lot that can be done I guess.
Anyway...So really it's not her being a girl that's a problem..b/c we would get her fixed..it's just PUPPY x2 that I don't think I can handle right now and we've already put too much money into our new baby coming next week.

Gotcha. That's so sad to hear though. Spay/neuter programs are so cheap these days, there's just no reason for that kind of thing to happen.
I'm glad that at least if your parents decide not to keep her, that you contacted a rescue group to help her out. :)

Problem solved...my mom came over to look at her and decided to take her home...I'm so relieved. My baby brother (25) is living at home and said he would take care of her through the puppy stage so my parents agreed. :)

She's a cutie for sure. Glad your mom is taking her home. 2 puppies at once can be really hard. A lot of times they bond to each other and not to you. Its difficult to give them one on one time and train them because they are so easilly distracted by one another. I know some take this challenge on and do fantastically. But it is a LOT of work. So glad your new puppy will have a wonderful playmate though at grandmas :) It will be great for getting out that puppy energy!
