View Full Version : East Coasters.... enjoying the snow?

I'm not sure how much of the East Coast is getting hit... but I know that my area (southeastern PA) as well as NJ and DE are getting bombed! I think we probably have at least 18 inches at this point and it's still coming down strong.

I've never been one to complain about snow and this year is my DH's first year plowing, so it's more than welcome!!!

Funny little snow story... I opened the backdoor to get a better look at the snow and the wind kicked up and brought down an avalanche from the roof... yep, right on me! LOL! My two year old thought it was hilarious!

This is crazy! Our average yearly snowfall (near Washington, DC) is 15-16 inches. This is the 2nd storm this winter that tops that amount on its own. I don't know how much we have right now, but it's over a foot and there's lots more coming. It's kind of fun, knowing we're snowed in and setting records, but I'm hoping we don't lose power. I grew up in New England so I enjoy a few good snowstorms each year, but I'm over it for this winter. Spring, anyone?

I'm in Indiana, and we have 6-9 inches here. Hard to tell with the drifting. Jeff managed to lose his cell in the midst of the storm last night, and we lost power for abt 3 hours this morning, but things are looking up now. Of course, another storm is supposed to pass through Tuesday, so maybe we'll get our foot then.

I'm from Las Vegas, was in Utah for while and then we got stationed in KY and it's less snow then in Utah but seems more wet if that makes sense. I'm pretty sick of snow to be honest. My 2yo wants out CONSTANTLY and is always completely soaked by the time we come back in

LOL... I'm not a fan of playing in the snow, I'm a bit of a baby! I just like looking at it from inside! Thankfully now my older two boys are able to go out on their own, so it's really nice!

My 2 year old dislikes all cold things... ice cream, popsicles, etc... so snow is a definite NO!

We have 12-15 inches now, on top of the 1-3 we had on Wednesday which was on top of the 2-5 we had last weekend. Depending on where I am in my yard the snow is anywhere from halfway up my calves to well over my knees. Bad enough we are getting another record breaking 18-24" from this storm. Having it sit on 4-6" of existing snow is a pain. And it's so heavy & wet this time. We lost power for 3 hours over night

All we've been getting is cold rain

I wouldn't mind snow...just for a day or two though! LOL We're getting some rain here in SoCal, but it's not like the storm we had a few weeks ago.

Unusually for us, we are completely avoiding this storm. Most of the time New England gets slammed. We usually get our first big snow around Thanksgiving and I don't see my lawn until late April. Luckily, we're so used to it up here it rarely closes school....and if it does, not for more than a day. My family lives in Baltimore and they are getting nailed. I am sure there will be no school for a week!

We got bombed last night and it's still snowing this morning, but it's not the same system that is getting you guys. Usually what happens with storms going up the Eastern Seaboard is they hit us after. So it's possible we'll get another in the next few days.

4 days for only 6 inches?? heehee! I think it's funny how some states freak over a little bit of snow like that when if you go more north, 6 inches is really only a little bit

La, you probably won't get anything. There's a pressure system up that way keeping the low locked down, so the storm isn't moving North/Northeast at all. It's moving pretty much straight east, which is weird. NYC isn't getting anything, so I doubt you'll see anything in RI.

I posted a pic from my iphone on my FB. This is our front "porch" after Jordan made a path so Tigah-now could go potty. (She LOVES the snow, she's hilarious to watch when it's this deep.) We've got about 24" so far, and it's not supposed to stop for another 6-8 hours, and it's still coming down hard. The wind is almost high enough to make it a true "blizzard".

The funny thing, is that being from NY (and Jordan is from western MD in the mountains where they get this kind of snow all the time), we both find the snow issues down here downright hilarious. Our neighbors were using a BACKHOE to "plow" their driveways this morning. Our streets haven't seen a real plow since midnight, and even then they were only throwing salt to try and melt the ice so that there isn't a solid layer of ice for teh regular plows to have to deal with. Stores are EMPTY of milk/eggs/toilet paper/etc because people down here freak OUT about storms. DC will be CLOSED on monday for sure. Like, the whole federal government will be shut down. I find it ridiculous.

Ugh, I haven't ventured out either! This morning when I got up around 6 we had about a foot. It took dh a while to get out, he ended up being late opening up the store - he had a 1/2 hour drive to norwalk, and they've got a winter weather advisory until 3 pm today. This used to be my fave kind of weather, until I had kids!! lol, I'm glad I sent dh out last night to get everything we might need, so I don't have to make any trips out in this!!!!

We got around 6-8 inches. But it's blowing around a lot so it's hard to tell. I had the pleasure of doing the shoveling because Dave had surgery almost 2 weeks ago. It was so not fun. I have had enough snow, it can be spring now. Lol

Lol! Nice Jac! I just went out with Tiger for an hour, and it's taller than she is, lol. We had to play in the street where it was more packed down. She was trying to swim through the snow practically, since she can't touch the actual ground, lol!

Love Col's picture of the people with the backhoe. LOL.

The picture of that little one with the huge snowball is just darling. Hoping to see that one in a LO sometime.

I heard the all of Delaware is closed. That if you drive they will ticket you. Anyone else hear this?

lmao the backhoe is freakin hysterical hahaha..
the snow line seems to be on the southern end of my state (not that we're huge or anything :p but that shows you how much the pressure system is keeping it away). we'll see. the weather i trust still says no snow till tuesday.. but i'd rather it come now :p I need roads 100% clear thursday morning.

Col, would love to see a pic of Tiger "swimming" in the snow. At least Tiger will go out. Some dogs refuse.

I think I got 1 or 2 shots of her in the super deep snow. It's hard cuz she actually moves really fast through it and I can never keep her in focus, lol. We'll see. I got some SUPER pretty shots of her otherwise though, that I'm stoked to play with. Tiger looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooves the snow. LOVES it. For a while, she was just sitting in the road (no cars or anything), watching the people and taking everything in. She makes my heart :swoon: LOL!

I'm gonna go play with the pics now :)

We got about 18 inches as well. I literally had to dig my way out of my house, dig out my car and then dig myself off my road. We live on a dead-end road and I had to be at work today. I was 2 hours late. We literally had to shovel the road to make tracks so I could get off the road.

I love these pictures. It is cool here where I am but not cold. Probably around 58-60 degrees. I wish I was up there to see all this snow. I especially like the picture of the bench covered in show LOL. I know it must be a pain to everyone who is living there though. Hope you are all staying warm.
