I am telling you, I get the weirdest things. I developed a cyst in my ear about 3 days ago and it hurts sooooooo bad! I am taking a pain medication that I had on hand and thank goodness I had some eardrops on hand for pain from DD #3.
It is so big that it has almost closed off my ear canal and I can't hear out of that ear. It hurts to chew so I don't want to eat. It hurts to swallow. And.....I can't sleep because I guess laying down makes the pressure build or something....cuz I am more miserable when laying down. I think I will try sleeping in my recliner tonight.
Looks like a trip to the doctor as soon as I can get in to get it drained or get antibiotics.
Anybody have any experience with an ear cyst?

My sister had one not too long ago..hers sounded a lot like yours...she went to the doc and he just drained it for her there in the office. She said she felt relief as soon as he drained it.

Ouchie Ouchie :( I had one in my ear last year. I had to go to the doctors in the end for some antibiotics as it burst then got a bit of an infection in it. I'd recomend going as soon as you can. The pain was awful but not being able to lie down and sleep was worse.

I have suffered from ear issues my whole life - I had a cyst type of thing (really it was a benign tumor, but sort of had cyst-like qualities) that I had to have surgically removed - it had basically "eaten" away at the bones in my ear so I have an enlarged canal now and my ear doesn't drain wax normally - I have to have it manually cleaned out every 8-12 months.
But mine wasn't painful - and I know that kind of pain is miserable, so I hope you get relief soon!!

Just an update......
Well, the side of my face with the cyst started causing my face to swell yesterday. I can hardly eat anymore or chew rather.
I finally gave in and let DH take me to the minor emergency today. It is an abscess that has caused swelling in some of lymph nodes. The doc was hesitant to drain it as the numbing process would have been very painful he said due to the soreness I already have. If my face gets touched even gently it hurts.
He suggested that I get in to see an ENT doctor as soon as one can work me in. They will have better numbing topicals, etc. or they may want to go an entirely different route.
He did put me on an antibiotic and some pain medication in the meantime. So, I feel much better with the pain meds. Hopefully I will find an ENT who can see me soon!
Owwies! That sounds so sore! Hope that you'll start to get some relief from those antibiotics. Can't imagine trying to sleep with that.

I have been sleeping sitting in my recliner. If I lay down the pain intensifies! I miss my pillow. and my DH, I guess. :p

I run in the "odds" too ... upon the birth of my 2nd child it took 3 doctors to figure out what happened to me during the birth ...and both the OBGYN and the family doctor (who used to deliver babies) had never seen this happen and didn't know why I was in so much pain AFTER ... they finally found a doctor that figured out that I had a separated pelvic bone. When I got pg 8 months later they didn't want me to deliver naturally ... they were afraid the "odds were against me". lol
I hope you can get in this week and get some relief!! Keep us posted!
