So after hearing about how many people loved the sookie stackhouse series, i decided to give it a go.....Im about 8 chapters into the first book and im thoroughly bored. Should i keep reading? Do they get more interesting as the series progresses? I dont want to miss out on a good series if its just the first book thats a bit dull, but i dont want to waste my time if it just goes on like this....

I honestly wondered the same thing... so I'm curious to see what people say! I started the first one and it just didn't grab my interest. But like you said, if it's just a bad start to a good series, then I would like to stick with it!

I think the first one was the one I liked the least and, because of it, I hesitated about reading the rest. I really do like the series- it's funny, self-depreciating, kind of sexy, kind of scary.

Resident Truebie here, lol. keep reading. i thought that the first one was a bit boring too. but i have never in my life not finished a book so i kept reading. i finished all of them in a little over a month i think. maybe less; i'm a fast reader. now i'm impatiently waiting on the next one coming out in may. or is it march? i forget. i watch it on HBO too. SO fun seeing the characters come alive. and because of that i'm now obsessed with Eric, lol. The series is done until June. i'm going crazy with out my fix, lol.

The first one is the most boring of the 9. It took me forever to read it. Stick with it, they get better.

The first wasn't my favorite, I really started enjoying them around book three.

I agree with the others. I only kept reading because someone had bought me the boxed set so I already had them. I was glad I did!

Totally agree with this. I just kept powering through because my friends were raving about it. Book 3 is when I really started getting excited to read it. I have read all 9 and not so patiently waiting for book 10.
Happy reading!

I will have to admit that I love Twilight better than Sookie Stackhouse. This is another great vampire read though. It is not dark. It is just some more vampire loving fun! :)

Keep reading! The first time I started reading it, I gave up a few chapters in. I don't usually give up on books, and since so many people rave about them I tried again a few months later. Loved it (and the rest of the series) on the 2nd try and am now impatiently waiting for the next one.

Keep reading! :) They get a little slow and boring for me at times and I'll get stuck.. but once I force myself to pick it back up, it usually grabs my interest again.

I am also a total Trubie, and I have to say just keep reading. It does get more exciting, but the first book is the least exciting of them all. I honestly just found Sookie loveable and in the first book you are trying to get to know her. I think book two has quite a bit of excitement and you are begining to see flickers of what is to come in the series. I am actually reading them all for the second time...but like I said I am just a trubie :)

Definitely keep reading cause they do get better, SO much better! My very favorite of the series was #4 All Together Dead, that was the one where I moved right on over to the Team Eric side for good lol! I read the entire series (including A Touch of Dead which is all the short stories from various books rolled into one) in about a week and a half or so! Now I'm watching the first two seasons of True Blood and impatiently waiting for Dead in the Family to come out on May 4th and then season 3 in June!!

haha i did exactly this same thing! i refused to read twilight, claiming that grown women should not read about teenage vampire love. Eventually caved in, read all 4 in about 3 weeks and am now the biggest twilight fan! I started reading sookie stackhouse because everyone that read twilight told me id love sookie stackhouse as well.

Yeah, I'd say that's when I got to the point I couldn't put them down.
Keep in mind too, if you watch the show, the books are super different.

Ooh I will definitely have to check that out!!
Keep on reading! I had the same problems with the first book and actually set it aside to read something else. When I finished up a few other books I returned to it and managed to finish it. I am sure glad that I did! A lot of series start off a little slow cuz they have to get the story basics going... and I think that is the case with the Sookie books.
