So I just watched the 2 episodes from last week where the judges picked the top 24. And I'm totally left scratching my head.
Some of their choices made NO sense to me!! I mean, they let through Aaron Kelly (http://www.americanidol.com/contestants/season_9/aaron_kelly/) who forgot the words EVERY SINGLE TIME, and turned away Thaddeus, who was AMAZING each and every performance. What the heck??
And then they decided against the girl who had an amazing voice (the one who's dad died & she has a daughter with autism, and went to jail last year for a traffic violation)... and let through Katelyn Epperly, who I thought wasn't that great, along with Haeley Vaughn, who's last song made my ears bleed.
I totally TOTALLY don't get it!?!?

Maybe they are making it easy to kick people off the first few weeks...LOL!
I totally agree...the choices were really off, but maybe there was more behind the scenes that we didn't see.

I don't either..
not sure if you watch Ellen but last week Angela (the one with the dad, dd, and jail...) was on and Ellen and Kara are helping her out..Kara is writing and producing a single for her and then Ellen said she's going to help her with exposure to find a record contract..
btw her dd has Rhett's Syndrome and has severe seizures...it was also her last year of eligibility on the show (she's 28) AND..as if things weren't hard enough for her her mother has been missing since December (Hollywood week was taped before she went missing)
I hope she gets a break..she deserves it!

I couldn't agree more! I guess it was what they call the "star potential" - I don't get it personally.

Ellen had another girl on today..um..the one who 1/2 her muscles in her face don't function...she sang too but she's 19 so she is thinking about coming back next season to try again.
Did y'all like that Maddie girl..that didn't make it? that Simon said that was a mistake?

Is Maddie the one you just mentioned (the one who has no muscle function in half her face)? I liked her singing, but her mouth was soooo distracting. I didn't bother to watch the auditions - did she say what happened, why her mouth is like that?
FYI - I don't mean to sound rude - I'm genuinely curious, lol! I was telling my DH that it looks like that side of her face may have nerve damage or something?

I liked Maddie more than some of the others that were picked.

So how does this game work? We watch the performances tonight and then make our picks for who gets voted off?
I agree with you guys - some of the picks surprised me, too!

I think Paula has another thread with the rules, but basically yes that's the general scheme.
If what we saw during Hollywood week is any indication, it might be hard at first picking out who'll go home because there were some real iffy ones. Then it will get really hard because the remainder were really good - and really different styles from each other. I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of instruments with the singers this year.
