Who has tickets or plans to go to Alice In Wonderland tomorrow? We have IMAX tickets and I am soooo excited. Alice is one of my favorite obsessions, and this is really big for me. :) Who else is stoked?

Ooh fun! You'll have to come here with a review! I'm going next weekend, I'm supposed to go with my oldest and her friend, and her friend can't do saturday and we can't do Sunday. So next week it is.

That movie looks beyond weird to me.

And IMAX is code word for geteally-dizzy-and-puke.

I have no sense of adventure apparently. :)

I wish we could go...we don't get to see movies in the theater that often though so it'll probably have to wait til it's on DVD :(

Alice in Wonderland is the first big chapter book I ever read. I can still remember the copy that my mom bought me at TG&Y (remember that store?). I had strep throat and had to go to the doctor and we stopped by there after and she bought it for me.

I sooooo am dying to see that movie..but can't go this weekend as I promised DD that I would go with her and this just happens to be the weekend she goes to her father's.
I can't wait to see what you rate it...but then I think anything with Johnny Depp in it is awesome whether it's on the wierd side or not. =0

I can't wait!!! I want to see it so bad that I think I've talked my BF into going with me tomorrow.
Alice in Wonderland has always been one of my favorite Disney movies...it's an obsession. I read the books too.
Plus I have SERIOUS love obsession with Johnny Depp and I love anything him and Tim Burton do together.

I'm sure it's going to be interesting.

I can't wait to see it. I was never a fan of 3d until we saw Avatar recently (and the 3D preview of Alice) and now I so want to see it in 3D!

Visually - it's stunning! We ended up seeing the 3D version, but I would've been just as happy at seeing the 2D version. I'm not a fan of Alice, but I really liked the movie! Burton didn't do a warped version of it. Depp was a little TOO much Cap'n Jack in a few small bits, but otherwise, he did a great job.

We were previewing it for the boys, and the only things I noticed was clandestine kissing between a married guy and someone NOT his wife, a chopped off lizard tongue, a beheading...that's about it. Definitely one I know our 10yo will love - the 6yo tends to be a bit more skitish, but I still think he's going to love it.

It's NOT your Disney Alice.

We LOVED it!!! Of course, it's not your typical Alice, but this is Burton and sometimes playing off the things that we are used to can be great. He did not disappoint! The 3d IMAX screen was AMAZING and it felt like we were right inside "Underland" with them. It's darker than the original, but again..Burton and his rocks of the socks did a relly great job. *swoon*

how much like.. blood was there manda? I was reading the reviews a second ago.. like just how graphic was it? or are they blowing it out of proportion

Darcy Baldwin

Since I didn't read the review, I think they're blowing it way out of proportion if they made a huge stink of it.

SPOILERS...

Of course, she kills the jabberwocky...and you see it's head get cut off, and it's head rolling down the steps. At the end, the White Queen collects some of the blood dripping down it's teeth (the blood is purple) for Alice. Alice walks over the heads of many of the Red Queen's victims..and it was a bit squeamish. They are all white heads..no blood. The water isn't clear, but I certainly never thought that it looked like blood. Then there's a point when the White Queen is mixing a potion for Alice and uses some 'buttered fingers'. Alice gets injured by an animal at one point, and they do make a lot of that injury..showing it often - 3 claw swipes across her arm that look raw but not gorey so much. Those are the only things I can think of. Oh, an eyeball gets popped out, but it's certainly not gorey as it could've been.

I wanted to add...we're pretty discerning about what we allow our children to watch. This isn't a movie I'd take my 3yo to see expecting Disney. I have no problem at all taking my kids..though my youngest may not want to see it. I know the issue of the kissing is going to be the thing asked about because the 10 yo is incredibly tuned to obvious right and wrong, and will be put off by it lol. But overall...it's a bigger kids' Alice, not a preK Alice. It's rated accordingly, but not something I'd take the PreK crowd to at all. But that's me. I honestly loved seeing a big budget, big kid movie that was rated PG.

I do remember two other things...there is talk about the Red Queen eating some tadpoles...after she sends their dad off "Off with his head" (she says that A LOT) lol And you see the tongue cut off the jabberwoky..but it's not gorey. Oh, and the White Queen gags a little when she's doing collecting the blood..but it's polite, gentile gagging..kind of funny really.

Here's a website that we often read reviews on Kids in Mind.com (http://www.kids-in-mind.com/a/aliceinwonderland.htm) It tells you in big detail what happens in a movie that may be objectionable, and you can decide. It's specific, even to the point of victorian, but at least you know exactly what to expect. The link is directly to Alice.

thanks darcenator :] usually I am really easy with what ce watches-- i mean he watched pirates 463674363 times ^_^ .. but lately things have been a lil different for him so I'm just being a little cautious :] thx for the linkie too

Ok don't flame me but I thought it was just "ok"

Certainly worth the watch but nothing spectacular, very visually pleasing though. I should've spent my 3D money on another round of avatar though :)

Of course, I don't think Tim Burton is the bees knees though.

Thanks for the review Darcy! :) I want to check it out... but I like to think of Johnny Depp in other ways ;) So I'll pretend the Hatter is Elijah Wood (when I first saw the poster, I thought it was) so I can preserve my Johnny Depp dreams... hee hee!

we went to see it :]

darcenator is right-- those rarah this is gorey and scary reviews were blown WAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of proportion. If anything, it was way less fantastical and gory than i expected :p
I think depp was outstanding.. the rest of it was good- not like fantastic though. Ce loved it though. The only parts that bothered him were at the end
spoilers in white if you don't want to read
he got scared by the dragon slaying bit-- he really disliked when alice "cut his neck off" .. and then also the bit with drinking the dragon blood disgusted him.. but other than those tiny bits he said it was awesome and his favorite movie ever and rararah. He was a happy kid :D

Oh good Owen wants to go with me and my sister to see it but I wasn't sure since we took him to the Percy Jackson movie and those monsters were scarier then we all 3 expected (and he LOVES monsters ha!) So I wasn't sure if this was to much for him lol.

I really really wish we'd prescreened Percy. The youngest one in our set wasn't happy at all LOL We spent a lot of time with him in our laps covering ears for monster scenes.

I just got back. I really liked it. I think it could have been a bit more odd, I guess is the word I am looking for, I think I just expected it to be weirder than it was, but I still liked it.
