Just started thinking about this today how I have some movies I just love so much. One of them is Life As A House. Sooo good. Well at least to me anyhow. I also really love Stepmom and Steel Magnolias. So Im kinda a sucker for the sappy chick flicks LOL but I also love old westerns (as well as some new ones). Really the only thing I wont watch much of is action (unless of course it has Vin Deisel  ) and those cheesy martial arts movies where their lines never match their mouths. Oh I also loved Titanic....only I always wished that Jack would have lived. So what are some of your all time favorites?

U571 - Matthew McConnehey and Jon Bon Jovi in uniform... really. Serioisly though I love coming of age movies and this one has a very different spin on it.

POTC 3 - loved the script writing on this

The Women - no men in the entire movie; loved the story line

I love rom/coms; suspense; some action and most movies with Johny Depp in it

Oh gosh I love Where the Heart Is. I cry everytime when I watch that movie. Especially the scene where Ashley Judd is talking about her kids being hurt. That just breaks my heart. If you have not already you should defenitely read the book. It is really similar but not completely the same. I really enjoyed the book and I read it after seeing the movie

Too funny that you mentioned this. My daughter was about 12 I think when she saw this and has refused to eat seafood ever since. She said to me fish are friends not food. She is 18 and still refuses to eat seafood although now she wont admit that is the reason. The funny thing is we were eating popcorn shrimp which are just breaded shrimp right? Well she says she hates seafood and I say well you eat popcorn shrimp dont you? She says yea they are made with popcorn right? LMAO I was just laughing so hard at that. Still cracks me up. She was mad that I fed her seafood.

I like all of these too- and the John Hughes movies mentioned above too- kindred spirits in movies! :) I LOVE crime stories, offbeat indie flicks, psychological thrillers, even horror movies, so I may not be a good one to ask if you like more mainstream.

BUT two of my all time faves- Into the Wild and V for Vendetta (they couldn't be more different from each other, but I truly love both).

So many good movies listed!! Some of my faves:

~ Pride & Prejudice (the 5 hour made for TV one - NOT the one with Keira Knightly - that one sucked!)
~ Anne Of Green Gables & Anne Of Avonlea (I watch this at least once a year and I hate the 3rd one they made about 5 years ago - it was horrible)
~ 10 Things I Hate About You
~ Rat Race (OMGoodness - I seriously laugh so hard I cry when I watch this one)

Newer ones:
~ Miss Potter (the one about Beatrix Potter)
~ The Blind Side
~ Julie & Julia

After reading through some of these, I really want to add Calendar Girls somewhere. It was great. Also the French film Priceless is adorable. And Girl, Interrupted. I need more of a top 30. [rec] is on my list, too. Um... and Devil Wears Prada. Also maybe the Descent and The Holiday.

The Notebook is good. It's definitely in my top 30, as well.

OOH! OOH! And now I also want to add V for Vendetta. It's so so so so so good.

ditto to just the bolded. dh and i both hated it.

Count me in the hated it group too. I thought it was pointless, and I have to say I was mortified to be sitting next to my mom and seeing the porn actors going at it...we both found it very offensive.

I went with my teenage daughter to see Juno and we both hateed it. My problem was the wsay they talked/acted. teens around here do not talk like that and it was like they tried way to hard to sound/act cool. My daughter said the same thing. She said none of her friends talk that way. SO had they toned down the slang a tad it might not have annoyed me so much. The actual storyline was not bad.

lovely1m

I thought Juno was awesome. Its in MN and you know how bad they have to over play MN people though.

Office Space, yeah, one of the funniest movies ever.

ok, am I the only one in here who loves Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood? Esp. on DVD with the scrapbook theme for the extras and menus and stuff?

When I want to cry I watch:
Divine Secrets
Stepmom
50 First Dates

When I want to laugh I watch:
50 First Dates
Bruce Almighty
Shrek

Movies that replay late at night that I can watch every time:
The Fifth Element
Stepmom
Dave
The American President
The Breakfast Club
16 Candles
Better Off Dead
How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days
Pretty Woman

oodles of others too that I just can't name off the top of my head. We watch all kinds of Sci-fi and action and we're into martial arts films. DH will watch scary but I don't like gory-scary. I do like psychological thrillers and make you think-suspense movies. Huge fan of M. Night Shyamalan here! (totally can't wait for Avatar: the Last Airbender...one of the few anime shows I like!)

I dont really get Tarantino. My daughter however likes alot of films he makes and has made me watch a few with her LOL. One of her favorites was Kill Bill. Another one I just did not get all the hype on. I do love Dirty Dancing though. And although I just recently watched the Harry Potters series I did enjoy them somewhat. My daughter loves HP so I bugged her to death about the whys and what and whos while watching LOL. She keeps telling me to read the books. Mh... I have a ton, but I guess...

And your daughter is right, if you get the chance, read the HP books... especially from the 4th to the last one. They're really great. I didn't watch the movies till I was really into the books, I was like reading the 5th, I think... I liked them a lot. But the books are way better, I think :) (And not so child-ish too... :D )

A lot of my faves are listed already (the John Hughes movies, Star Wars series, A Christmas Story, Muriel's Wedding, Monty Python, X-Men series). Here are some that are among my favorites, but I don't think I saw on anyone else's list:

Revenge of the Nerds

A Time To Kill (I think I fell in love with Matthew McConaughey and Sandra Bullock and Chris Cooper in this movie)
War Games
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Contact
Excalibur
and almost any James Bond movie (sorry, not the Timothy Dalton or George Lazenby ones, though)
