I don't want to be a stinker, but I'm seeing a lot of (awesome) giveaways (from designers at SSD and other shops) on Facebook that I believe violate their guidelines for promotions. I doubt anyone would get in trouble - but its better to be safe than sorry, right? (ETA: I'm definitely not trying to call anyone out here... just trying to be helpful so we as a community learn the "right way")

Facebook Promotions Guidelines (http://www.facebook.com/promotions_guidelines.php)

There are some great examples at the bottom, include this big one:
You cannot: Condition entry in the promotion upon a user providing content on Facebook, such as making a post on a profile or Page, status comment or photo upload.

*ducks and runs* Please don't shoot the messenger. I do not claim to be an expert... just sharing what I know. I am not clear at this point as to what would be required to actually host a promotion.

I know you can link to a promotion that is administered completely off of Facebook, i.e. on your blog. What I am not clear on is whether you need approval (hard to get) to use a third party application, like Wildfire Promotions (http://wildfireapp.com/). Wildfire says you don't (http://blog.wildfireapp.com/2009/11/16/navigating-the-new-facebook-promotions-guidelines/), but I'm reading the guidelines to say that you do.

Maybe we can figure this out together?

Ooh. That's interesting to note. I don't do this for scrapbooking, but instead for my home business. I hope I don't get in trouble! A lot of girls from my same company do the same.

I know there is a lot of grey area with the guidelines because they are so unclear and it seems like they pick and choose who they want to pick on... which is why many businesses and blogs now only do promotions on Twitter. There was a blog article I read that helps explain the guidelines a bit... let me see if I can find it.
