I don't want to be a stinker, but I'm seeing a lot of (awesome) giveaways (from designers at SSD and other shops) on Facebook that I believe violate their guidelines for promotions. I doubt anyone would get in trouble - but its better to be safe than sorry, right? (ETA: I'm definitely not trying to call anyone out here... just trying to be helpful so we as a community learn the "right way")
Facebook Promotions Guidelines (http://www.facebook.com/promotions_guidelines.php)
There are some great examples at the bottom, include this big one:
You cannot: Condition entry in the promotion upon a user providing content on Facebook, such as making a post on a profile or Page, status comment or photo upload.
*ducks and runs* Please don't shoot the messenger. I do not claim to be an expert... just sharing what I know. I am not clear at this point as to what would be required to actually host a promotion.
I know you can link to a promotion that is administered completely off of Facebook, i.e. on your blog. What I am not clear on is whether you need approval (hard to get) to use a third party application, like Wildfire Promotions (http://wildfireapp.com/). Wildfire says you don't (http://blog.wildfireapp.com/2009/11/16/navigating-the-new-facebook-promotions-guidelines/), but I'm reading the guidelines to say that you do.
Maybe we can figure this out together?
