I've had my SLR for 3 years, guess its time to get it off Auto :o

I've looked for classes around town but they are either really expensive or during the day while I work.

I saw one on Big Picture Scrapbooking today, the price seems reasonable so I'm considering it but I thought I'd ask if anyone here has any feedback on them or recommendations for similar online classes? I think I'd do best with one that was not self paced, otherwise I'd end up scrapping instead of taking pictures.

TIA!

I'm waiting for Clickin' Moms Beginner class. It's $195.00 and I think it's 13 weeks (don't quote me on that). Unfortunately they have limited space so it's hard to get in and you have to be a member to get the early announcement.

I've considered signing up at clickin moms, do you think its worth it for a true beginner?

Personally, I am completely lost over there. But I still need to learn the basics too. However, I know there are a few girls on here who love it over there and have said they have learned a lot!

Part of my problem is I don't have a lot of time to spend cruising the forums over there.

One thing I did do is I finally watched my Magic Lantern DVD and took my camera off of Auto. No matter how much I want to turn Auto back on, I won't let myself. I have a TON of crappy pictures I have taken in the last month but then there are a few which are amazing. I just need to remember what I did to get those... https://www.sweetshoppecommunity.com/forum/images/icons/laugh.gif

I am a true beginner and don't even have a DSLR yet (hoping to get one this Christmas). I am learning a ton over there at Clickin Moms. Mostly I am learning the basics of photography, post processing and watermarking.

As far as Big Picture, I have taken free classes there before, but I also signed up for the photography class in May. Elisha Snow is amazing and I am really looking forward to the class.

I took Oh Shoot! taught by Candice Stringham on Jessica Sprague's site and it was awesome! I haven't shot in auto since completing the class and she made it really easy to understand how everything works together. I'm by no means good yet but I'm learning more and more as I practice. It gave me the courage to start learning and a basis to go from. It's not offered all the time but you can sign up to be emailed when registration opens up again. :)

I think Clickin Moms is more than worth the price, especially for a beginner. tons of tutorials.
Buy the book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson.

I just finished this one up and it was GREAT! I have taken several online classes and this one by far pushed me the most. My kids got sick the last part of class so I didn't get to complete my assignments but I have a ton of info from it. It's actually only 4 weeks long but be prepared for week 2 cause it's enough info to make up for 13 weeks. There are several girls from here that were in class with me and I loved watching them all grow in their skills. Beckie (gr8rbeckie) was in there with me and she totally rocked her camera those 4 weeks.

Thanks for the review! Today is my anniversary so I think I'll tell DH that would be a good gift (and the $30 I just spent here can be, well, our little secret :p)

Just be sure to be by the computer when it's announced. The first one sold out in like 3 minutes and I was very lucky to get in the second one because it sold out in just about that time also. I just happened to log on at the time it was announced that morning. Talk about being at the right place at the right time.
