I did actually get hurt by a ceiling fan, but it was my own fault. I was visiting my parents and doing a workout video. The ceiling was lower than I'm used to and I managed to avoid hitting my hands on the blades until literally the last 10 seconds of the workout, when I was doing my last stretch. I bruised my fingers and couldn't wear my engagement ring for about a week, but no harm other than that.

It's a good thing your aren't in Texas then! EVERY ROOM except a few have ceiling fans in them.

When we were in VA and our MB ceiling fan got noisy, we replaced it with a prettier one (old one was cheap) and wouldn't you know it, the previous installer hadn't done it right and the only thing holding it up was the two set screws that hold the decorative cover at the ceiling. Oh no they had forgotten the lag bolts on the main part. Oye! Good thing we replaced the thing. Now we like to "inspect" our ceiling fans to make sure, especially if we sleep under them! But they are a necessity here that is for sure!

I haven't read the LO yet but my son was hanging from his once when he was little...he was supposed to be napping and I kept hearing weee weee so I went into his room and he was spinning on his fan...
