View Full Version : Title Work Question

When I look through the gallery I admire the title work that so many people do so well. How do you manage to get all of the letters the same size? Do you have a program that helps or do you just "eyeball" it? Do you also just "eyeball" the placement of the letters or do you use a grid?
Thanks for any hints you can give me.

Um...all of the above lol...
sometimes I eyeball it.....sometimes I use a grid...sometimes I create my title on a separate page and then resize it all together before dragging it to my layout

I drag all the letters to my lo and line them up how I want them so I can see the spacing and stuff, then I select all the layers and resize them to however small I want.

Same as Brie, I select all layers and resize them together!

I do a little of all the above too. My most common thing is when I get all the alphas over on the page that I want to use, I select them all in my layers pallet and resize them all at once. Once I have them the same size, then I usually use the grid to get them lined up how I will like. PSE has a neat option of where the programs "aligns" them for you. Very nice. I even "paste" my layer style (shadow) to them all at once when I have them selected too. Makes it faster for me. :)
Hopefully that was helpful and didn't confuse you some more!

I group my layers. That way when I resize the group everything under it will be same size. :)

Pretty much the same as everyone else - highlight all the layers and resize all at once!

That's how I do it! If I want them lined up perfectly I will use the grid, but usually I just snap them to the bottom of the layout edge, then drag them all together to where I want them.
I select all layers and resize them together!
That's what I do! I've never used a grid, though .. maybe I should. :)

I learn something new every day! Will be trying this on my next layout!

I use the same method as tara.

I space them out how I want, I line them all up straight by highlighting them all and suing the align tools in PS and then I do CTRL+T and resize.

I use the Smart Guides to line mine up and I select the layers and resize at once :)

I kinda do all of the above. I drag them all onto my layout, select all of them, resize to about the size I want, move them around, use the align bottom/center button, depending on what I want for that one, resize more if I need, by selecting all again, then add my layer style!

okay how do I "snap to the bottom" ? that's a new one?
i resize all at once. and i use the align feature as needed, which isn't often....i really prefer messy title work w/crooked, overlapping letters.

Ditto!! Easiest way for me with the bajillion alphas I drag onto the page :)

Resize as a group, but I just eyeball the alignment. I've NEVER been a measure / line-up sort of gal. Ever.

okay how do I "snap to the bottom" ? that's a new one?
In PSCS go to View > Snap and see if it's checked. Then go to Snap to> and select the things you want to snap to. Mine's set to document bounds and guides. Set yours to document bounds to snap to the bottom.

Thanks for explaining that Joana!! Mine was set that way by default so I had NO idea how to tell her how to do it, lol!!!

Since I usually like my letters to vary in size in my title, I drag each letter to my layout and resize by eyballing it. Once I get things the way I want them to look I group them so that way if I need to make them smaller/larger they still have the same "look" I was going for.

All of the above. If I want them all lined up I use the smart guides, otherwise I position them as I want them - overlapped, crooked, etc. - select them all and resize and then add my shadow.

lol, we've got a lot of eyeballers. I must admit, I've never used the eyeball method. The tool bar tells you're what % you resizing to (in PS and PSP, not sure about PSE, but I assume so), so I just make sure to use the same % each time, if I'm not doing them all at once (which is the easiest). I'm shocked that no one else does this. If you click the little lock icon, you can just type in the applicable % each time. Or you can hold down your shift key when you're resizing. I'm way to lazy for guides. For alignment, I use the transform controls that let you align them by top, center or botton and the spacing controls that let you distribute the layers equally. Easy peasy.
