Mother's Day Project....Help!

I want to paint Terracotta flower pots for our moms' Mother's Day gift from the kids. I think I am going to use my kids hands to make flowers/bugs and then we will plant a flower in the pot. This is the first time I have ever painted a pot. What kind of paint or sealer should I buy? Is there anything I need to do to prep the pot?

Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks so much. I know you talented ladies will know what I need to do :)

You can use acrylic paint or specialty "outdoor" paint, but acrylic works just fine. Then I would seal it with either a few coats of Modge Podge or Krylon has a great spray sealer too.

I was going to suggest the Krylon sealer as well. It works really well.

With the sealer, do I need to spray the inside of the pot too?
