I'm SO excited! My sister had a baby boy this morning - his name is linus :) :)
I won't get to see him until we go up to see her at the end of the month though :(

She had to have an emergency c-section so that sorta sucks! Those who have had c-sections can you give me any helpful advice I could pass along to her to help her recovery go smooth?? Thanks! It is her first baby :)

Only advice I have is to get up and move as soon as they will let her. Itll hurt like hell but it makes the recovery go sooo much faster & easier. With my daughter I had an emergency c-section and did not want to move at all because it hurt so bad. With my sons though I learned my lesson and as soon as they said I could I was up moving and walking around and it was sooo much better (I had three c-sections total)

forgot to say congrats too...cant wait to see layout featuring him :). Another thing is to make sure she listens to what the dr's tell her to eat for the first week or so. The gas that builds up can be awful and it really helps to follow the diet they recomend. I learned that the hard way LOL

Awww CONGRATS to your sister and you!!!!

I thankfully never had a c-section but everyone that I know that has had one say TAKE THE DRUGS!!! It make recovery some much more bearable!!! Even if she is nursing the docs will give BFing safe drugs and it will really really help the pain!!!!

Yay! Congrats! Can't wait to see the pics.

I have had two c-sections and I would agree to get up and start walking as soon as they tell you to. It will feel like hell but it is really the best thing. Also, take the pain killers on time and stay ahead of the pain. Don't wait to take them because you feel ok....once they wear off, YIKES. And finally, if she can afford it, I would HIGHLY recommend getting a cleaning crew/maid in for a couple weeks. It is only around $100/week and will help to keep her sane. She isn't going to be able to keep up with housework while recovering from the c-section AND tending a new baby. The more help she can get, the better.

Congrats again!

Susan

PS - It would be great if someone could pre-cook some dinners for her to just pop in the oven.

Congrats! :)

Definitely have her get up and walk ASAP.. but don't over do it! It will definitely hurt at first and if she tries to do too much at once, it'll hurt. She should take things slowly, but definitely walk as much as she can without over doing it.

Congratulations! :)

I second everything that the other girls said before. Showering the scar makes is also feel better. I took also homeopathics - Arnica and Staphysagria - which helped to better recovery.

Congratulations on the birth of your nephew!! I've had two c-sections and they were both fairly easy. Have your sister get up and walk ASAP. Have her walk down the hospital hallway every couple of hours. Oh, and MAKE HER KEEP UP ON HER PAIN MEDICINE. It's better to take them on time then let it lapse! Take lots of pictures for us!!!

Awwwwww congratulations!! What an adorable name!! Love that!

I had two c-sections too and I agree with what's already been said. As soon as she's up to it she needs to get up and move around. I started back walking as soon as I got home with mine. I over did it a bit too at first and had some set backs, so warn her not to do TOO much :)

Congrats!!! :)

I'm another one who had 2 c-sections (they were both horrible, but the first one was an emergency and really bad for that reason). I definitely agree with the walking. And it'll be easy for her to overdo it once she starts feeling better, but let her know that it will definitely catch up with her, so she should stop well before she reaches her limit.

Congrats!

I also have had an emergency C-section (and will be having a second C-section in 17 days :)). I also agree with what all the other gals have said - get up and walk as soon as she can and watch the diet. Also, I would say to have her let people help her! It is so hard for us moms to do sometimes, but this is one time if someone offers to help a little, let them. She will definitely thank herself later.

Can't wait to see pictures of your new nephew!

All the advice offered is really good advice! Definatly the part about getting up and about is the critical one! Its going to hurt like no mans business, but that first movement is the worst! It gets easier the more you slowly move around.

Also if she can get family to help out with meals/cleaning etc, it will make such a difference for her :)

Congrats by the way!! Cant wait to see piccys!

Congrats Kristin!!! I know how excited you were!

I'm a 2 csection mama too, and the 1st was an emergency. I totally agree with what all the other ladies have said. You don't get a medal for trying to do too much so tell her not to 'over do' it.
