My cat was doing the weirdest thing...

The cats like to lay down on top of the entertainment center. There usually isnt anything up there but my husband had set the ads from Sundays paper up there. Well my cat Ali was up there and she was taking the paper and tearing little pieces off of it and then sort of spitting it onto the floor. well you know not spitting exactly but leaning over the edge and letting it fall out of her mouth. She tore a big chunk of the ad apart by doing this. Only I have no idea why she would want to do this. When I caught her doing it and took the paper she sort of hid her face like uh-oh Im in trouble.

That's actually a normal cat thing. Cats love to shred paper. Mine will even shred cardboard boxes when we leave them for them to play in. So yeah, she's fine and normal...if you can ever call a cat normal. ;)

Im used to the clawing paper and boxes and stuff but she was using her mouth to tear little strips off then dropping them off the side. Probably still normal for cats but weird to see her doing it because it is a first for her.

Oh, mine do it with their claws too, but I was referring to the fact that they shred paper and cardboard with their teeth. I have 4 cats at the moment and 3 out of the 4 will rip the paper up with their mouths...so yeah...it's still normal. I had 2 that were really bad at doing that but they've both passed on now.

My oldest Burmese shreds (with his mouth) every piece of paper he sees. In fact, he knows now that I come running to see what he is tearing up, so he does it now to tell me he wants food! He bites the edge, pulls his head up and sort of swings it a bit so that the paper falls away. We have tiny bits of paper everywhere here it seems. My son had to take a permission slip to school once that was half torn up....I'm sure one day he will have to say "the CAT ate my homework."!

my cats always seemed pretty wierd to me because in the past most of the cats Ive had were the lazy lay around the house sleeping 23 hours a day kind LOL. Once they got out of the kitten stage they did not want to play or run around anymore. Just totally content to sit in your lap and be petted all day.

my new kitten is lazy, lol. she'll get into moods where she'll run around the house, but for a kitten she sure lays around a lot. usually in the window or on my lap when i'm at my desk. she's a sweetie though. the paper thing is funny, lol. so far she just likes to chase little balls and play with the dogs tail.

Only one of my cats has a fascination with paper...mostly magazines...
drives him nuts trying to open the pages to some sorta damage.
