my laptop has been acting really strange when I use Photoshop Elements 6.

Here are the stats for my laptop

Toshiba Satellite A210 (can't remember if it is a Satellite Pro or not but I doubt it as it was only about $1000 when I bought it)
Processor - AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-62 2.10GHz
RAM 3.0GB
Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2

I had Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 open at the time along with ACDSee Photo Manager 2009 running in the background (I usually have Mozilla Firefox running as well) At the time I was transforming a 12x12 paper and only 2 layers in total. Previous times when scrapbooking I have more than 2 layers in my working file and it runs absolutely fine (the day before I was working on a file that was 594MB) so it does seem a bit of a surprise. All my files are on my Western Digital External Hard Drive so my HD only has the programs running.

I have done a defrag & disk cleanup and it has helped a bit

I am down to the bare basics of Vista and have been for quite some time now, my friend disabled quite a few of the fancy addons right from the start.

The reason I am thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 is my friend really wants to do the upgrade & she thinks it will help the overall health of my laptop as well. She and I are splitting the cost of a 3 user pack so it is only $150 each.

My friend is baffled by what is going on & she really has no suggestions. She doesn't think adding an extra 1GB of RAM will make any difference bringing me up to 4GB of RAM so that is why she is saying I should upgrade to Windows 7 as she thinks that could help me out.

One of the main reasons I am so worried is the fact that soon I want to be able to run Photoshop CS4 on here & I am figuring if PSE isn't playing nice with my laptop what are the chances of PSCS4 playing nice. I won't have it for a little while though as I am still paying it off.
