Just curious since we have not done this in awhile how much gas is going for around where you live. I think its like 2.89 at the gas station down the road from us. I miss the days where gas was like a buck something a gallon (or less). I remember it going as low as like 89 cents a gallon back in 2004 or so. Also just because Im a dork how low do you think you remember it being since you started driving? The 89 cents is the lowest I can honestly remember and I remember it hovering around 4 something a gallon not that long ago maybe a year or two ago

I think regular unleaded is about the same here Jessica. I put premium in my car, so it's over $3...maybe up to $3.19 some places.

I'm way old, so I remember the gas lines in the 70's where we were only allowed so many gallons of gas...the lines wrapped around the buildings and we would wait hours to put a few gallons of gas in (I'm trying to remember how many we could put it).

I was born in 76 so I would not know from living through it but why were you only allowed a certain amount of gas??

we put midgrade or premium too only because my husband said with our car having about 250,000 miles that it is better on the motor. 2.89 was the last time I put gas in and I am pretty sure that was mid-grade.

We live in the middle of nowhere, so the gas station down the road gets away with charging more ... you have to drive another 100 miles to find another one, lol.

I think when we filled up a few days ago it was $3.50. Yuck.

I remember when I was 17 and bought my first car I'd pay $0.98/gallon. That was just over 10 years ago.

I had to convert it because we measure in liters instead of gallons, but we pay now at the cheapest stations $ 7.18 per gallon and at the more expensive ones it will be around $ 7.50 per gallon.

OK Monique I think Ill stop complaining. It wouldnt be so bad but everything seems to be so spread out from where I live. 25 miles round trip to take my daughter to school or pick her up. 20 miles round trip to the grocery store. I know alot of people have to drive farther but the traffic out here makes it feel like double the mileage

And that's were we are lucky. We don't have to drive that far because everything is within reach and lots closer to each other. But these short drives take up so much gas :(

I just filled up today 2.79/gallon

I remember gas being 88 cents/gallon (in georgia) when I would drive up to see my brother, I'd fill up right as I crossed the florida line (when i lived in florida)

now Florida always had higher gas than Ga but I think it's a state tax thing since here I have to pay state taxes but at the time I lived in Florida I didn't so the gas prices there had a tax in it..not sure if that's the case now but back in I guess 99ish it was

You know Meg Im not sure about taxes. I think there is tax on the gas I have no clue how much but we dont pay state income taxes and our sales tax is relatively low too (6.5 percent) and because we have homestead exemption our property taxes are really super low in most places. The guy who held our mortgage told us about people in the area of Penn. where he lives losing their homes because they could no longer afford the taxes because the home values went so high

I filled up last night in So. Oregon for $2.99...however, here at home in No California, it's between $3.20 & $3.30 depending on which gas station.

The last I saw was $2.89 for unleaded... I was shocked that it was only $3.44 downtown Chicago when we were there this weekend... I thought it would have been way higher... it was the only gas station I saw. ;)

It's $2.79 here on average. Up to $2.89 depending on whether you are in the city or the county. I tend to get my gas at Martins grocery store, which lets you earn money off the gas when you buy groceries. I have 20 cents off so far & am about $30 worth of groceries away from hitting 30 cents.

$2.79/g here. We've gotten to a point where filling the tank only happens once a month. With Andrew out of work, we just don't go very far these days. And we use the rewards program our local grocery store offers, so we often get gas for 60¢ less per gallon than we normally would.

OK, I feel really good now. Gas was $2.72/gallon here yesterday, and with my grocery store rewards discount I got it at $2.42/gallon. Still, I only fill up once every 2 to 3 weeks. And hubby works at home so he only fills up once every 1 to 2 months. I think we get gas for the lawn mower more often than our cars, LOL...

I paid $3.09/gallon for regular a few days ago, in LA. But our station seems to be about 10 cents less than most.

I remember the days in the 70's waiting in long lines around the block, with my dad, waiting for the gas to be delivered.

That must be why you see so many people driving motorcycles and walking/riding bikes there. My nephew was stationed in Italy with the army and his wife is still there while he is in Afghanistan$2.49 here right now....I remember when we were in Italy 2 summers ago paying $10.95 a gallon, ohhh that hurt. The cheapest I remember it being is $1.20 a gallon.

I was born in 76 so I would not know from living through it but why were you only allowed a certain amount of gas??

There was a shortage, so there wasn't enough for everyone to fill up their tanks. This must've been 1977 or 1978. I had to have been at least 16 because I was driving then and I remember waiting in my little Honday Civic in those long lines.

I googled it and read about how it was to do with the US and OPEC (or OPEAC?) and them cutting off supplies to the US in the early 70's and then it mentioned something about it happening late 70's as well. I asked my husband but he said he didnt remember but then he was only 11 at the end of the 70's. In 77-78 I was only 1 or 2 years old LOL.

I saw it for $2.53 the other day.

I remember in college (1997) it was less than a dollar.

You know..last summer when it was still so low, but starting to creep up again, I told Russ that people weren't going to complain this time. ....and so far, it's close to what it was 2 years ago here...and no one is complaining like they did then (except me LOL).
