I have to celebrate!!

My husband and I got custody of my stepkids 4 months ago and it's been a rough time adjusting. When we got custody, E was not passing at all and was in danger of having to repeat a grade, and B's grades were barely passing. Today was the last day of school and we found out that B made the principal's honor roll for the year and E passed all her classes and her end of level tests and will get to go to 9th grade next year! She was also super close to making honor roll.
I am so proud of these guys....it's not been an easy adjustment for them to go from a home with little to no rules to a house with a lot of rules and expectations of good grades, but they have both worked so hard and risen to their potential and showed off their smarts this semester. It's sooo wonderful to see all these months of stress pay off in this way!

Having no rules or expectations is hard. After my parents split (12) I didn't have many rules, my mom worked lots of long hours & I was in charge a lot, it didn't affect my schooling or behavior so much, but was actually thankful when I got to move to my Aunts house where there was stability, rules & restrictions.

I can only imagine what the stress level has been, not only for you, but for them too.

We had a movie tonight, but they leave tomorrow for summer at their mum's. My mom(their step-grandma and the only gradnparent they really know because she came to visit recently) sent them some bonus spending money for such awesome jobs so we ran to walmart for them earlier.
