Do you have anything in terms of your personality/something you have done/interests that just doesn't fit "you"? I am horrible at wording questions but just wondering.. haha. What is the 1 thing people would be shocked to find out about.

Friends at church are always super surprised to learn I was an Army Medic for 15 years. And I guess I'm a fairly conservative person, so the thought of me earning my parachute wings and working in war zones leaves them with their jaws dropped. LOL

Saying that though, to THEM it doesn't seem to suit me, but to ME, it was right on the button.

I am pretty much an open book so thinking of something that would be shocking is hard to come by.

Hmmmm......I am a preacher's daughter! Not radical enough???? Hmmmm...I am only 33 and I am a mom to SIX children ranging in age from 20 to 5 years old. (Two adopted daughters: Kayla - 20 years old and Whitney - 19 years old. Two step-daughters: Alicia - 18 years old and April - 16 years old. Two adopted sons: Robert - 17 (18 in a few days!) years old and Landon - 5 years old) My two oldest daughter have both made my a grandma (They call me Nonna) in the last year, so I have 2 grand daughters that were born July 2009 and March 2010! I never would of guessed this is where I would be at this point in my life but I am so glad I am! :)

well... if you don't know much about me, i guess nothing would be surprising ;)

thinking... anyone who knows my personality, i think would be surprised to know that i was a librarian. i'd still be there if i hadn't gotten in a bad car accident while pregnant with my youngest and decided to stay home with them :)

i think anyone from my past would be surprised to know that at 24yo, i am a MOM (!!) of two boys, stay at home with them and also work from home as a digital scrapbooking designer :) i don't think i strike most as the 'mom type' and was never really into computers ;)

I think anyone that knows me would be surprised to learn that I actually performed 4 songs at the Melbourne Concert Hall (big concert venue here in Aus). I srsly cannot carry a tuen to save myself, yet I somehow found myself on stage, giving it everything I had lol

ummmmmm...I am pretty open book and pretty straight forward about EVERYTHING! if you came to my house you would never know that clutter really really really gets to me!!!! That being said, my new house will be CLUTTER free except for clutter designated areas {kids toys in their rooms and my scrapbook room}~

I work at a kids clothing store and often talk about my boys. Most people are downright shocked to hear my boys are 11 years apart. I have an 18 year old and a 7 year old. And yes, it was on purpose. :)

I belong to a conservative religion and grew up in a conservative community in what most would consider a very traditional/conservative family. So, most people who know me but didn't know me as a teenager are shocked when they hear my family's story (it's a really really long story :)) and that my parents got divorced and then remarried each other. They have an amazing relationship now - happier than ever - and most people who know them now would never guess what they've been through and what our whole family went through during those years.

...and I'm the opposite - people are quite startled to hear that I'm 6'1". Makes for lots of fun finding jeans that I want as JEANS and not Capri pants LOL

I also find people to be surprised that I'm a bartender (well, pre-kid life I was). And, I can walk on the knuckles of my toes

hmmm... I'm pretty open also, but there is much almost none of you know.

I too am short, 4'11''.
I was accepted to 3 art colleges, but since I felt that none of the things I wanted to study would provide a sufficient or reliable income I chose to study Early Childhood Education. (Since my eldest was almost 1 when I graduated high school I had to think that way)
I broke up with my husband (then boyfriend) when I found out I was pregnant with our first in a fit of hormonal severe morning sickness distress and we stayed apart until I was close to 7 months pregnant.
I'm the second eldest of 7. I have an older brother, two 1/2 siblings, two step-siblings, and a cousin my parents have legal custody of. (No we never all lived together.)
That's all I care to share at the moment. There's much more (and much more shocking) but I'm not really up for sharing it with a large group.

That sounds like my family! You can trace twins back to the late 1700s in our family, with one exception (the very first set of twins we have record of), they're always same gender fraternal too! My generation is the first to not have twins in it, anywhere.

I'm a pretty open book, too. Maybe my past mosh pit visits would be shocking? I don't know.

Hmm, a lot of people know it (member of the chatterbox tell-everyone-everything club, too), but I think a lot of them were super surprised when I got my boyfriend, who is 9.5 years younger than me. Everyone has always rather seen me with an older guy. Including me that is. LOL But my sweetheart found a way to totally win me over and I'm happy about it.

Alas, I have to guess here. While I could sometimes see a bit of shock on some faces, hardly anyone dared to really tell me. Heheh, maybe they are used to us girls having interesting partners. My sister's husband is a lot older than her. That at least was my dad's reaction: Ah well, ok. Your sister has an older one, so now you have a younger one...

shocked? i can shock people?

hahaha

ummm, I'm adopted. I have NO desire to meet my biological mother. My sisters (twins) are also adopted.

I have a masters degreen in music performance and don't play my bassoon at all anymore. :\

I recently went back to work part time because I needed some sort of contact with the 'outside' world. I love my daughters with all my heart but we all needed some time apart from each other.

Hmmm... I'm doing PhD and I'm 25 LOL! Does that count?
I have little brother and sister who are 12 and 17 years apart from me (not on purpose, as much as I can tell!). I look Chinese, I have Chinese blood on me, but I can't speak Mandarin! People here are always shocked when I tell them that... they just expect me to speak the language... :-/

Let's see:

I am a classically trained violinist and studied for many many years and performed at some awesome venues back home, but I haven't played in almost 2 years due to wrist injuries.

I'm 22, and a step mom of two kids-ages 13 and 11-which shocks most people, especially because most people from my high school think I married my husband's brother(long long long story, lol).

I'm a certified scuba diver and looove to go diving.

I don't think there is much surprising about me. Hmmm let me see random facts-
I haven't seen my natural hair color in over 10 yrs(though everyone things I'm a red head, I'm not.).
I write music and can play over a dozen instruments.
I slept through every history class I had in Highschool.
I am allergic to strawberries.
I skipped college and went to the military, but did not meet my husband there.
I didn't make my FB page, my husband did. (I was anti FB.)

its so interesting to learn little tidbits about each other.

nothing about me is really that interesting, lol. ummm....my mom was going to name me Candy instead of Corey. i never wanted kids, yet here i am with 3 lol. i met DH about a month or so before he was to head to Army basic training. we kept in touch that whole summer via letters and phone calls then got married when he was done. so our engagement period was less than a year and spent mostly apart. :D

LOL MEEE TOOO Amy!!! I am proud to be a shortie! LOL The only time I get a lil peeved is when someone puts their arm on my shoulder and uses me as a leaning post! That drives me nutty!

I married the boy next door. Literally, I could see his bedroom from our 2nd floor deck ROFL NOT THAT I SAW ANYTHING EITHER!

I am 4'11 and my hubby is 6'4, A few years ago we went to a couples halloween party as the Green Giant and Little Pea, it was so hilarious and we won for most original costume! LOL

I'm not sure.
I think people are surprised when I tell them my job in the Air Force, Signals intelliegence, mainly listening to Morse Code. Most people don't think its still out there.
That I have a thick southern accent and I'm from Florida. I get that all the time that people from Florida don't talk like that. I'm here to tell you do that we do, up in North Florida.
I grew up in a small town with less than 250 people, 75 miles from the closest mall, movie theater, or hospital.

hmmmm.....

Nothing too interesting here. Other than having two kids by the time I was 18. Goodness those were some rough years. Oh and I have been married 3 times, was divorced twice by the time I was 25. Yes, three. I finally found my soul mate 9 years ago and we have been married now for 7 1/2 years. I have four children actually, 3 daughters of my own and a 15 yo step-son. DH and I have no children together. And, I will be a grandmother in about 3 months.

Oh and my biker friends are always shocked that DH and I owned a quilt store and Pfaff sewing machine dealership for 3 1/2 years, which we both worked at full time.

PS - I love all you shorties! My DD #1 is only 5' and 92 lbs. She is so adorable. Both her sisters (even the 13 yo) are taller than her now. She is the shortest person in our family (my siblings, etc. included).

Hmmm most people in RL know this, but I don't really go around telling everyone online, lol...

I had my youngest son at 16!(I'm 24 and he is 8 now) :) I had all the disapproving looks and comments that me and OH wouldn't last, and I'd just be another statistic for single teenage parents, but 9 and a half years on we are still together and going strong with 2 sons now!

hmm.... I always struggle at these because I don't think there is anything interesting about me... I'm an only child... I'm super shy yet I was a corporate software trainer and traveled all over the US and UK, training thousands of people new software programs AND I have no fear talking in front of large groups of people... and what still shocks my husband is that I did awesome in my science classes and started college in Paper Chemical Science... yet I'm a right brain creative thinker who can troubleshoot mechanical problem as well as my left brain engineer hubby.

this is a really interesting thread!

Almost everyone I meet IRL is surprised that I have a successful business. I guess I look dumb. LOL!!

Hmmm let's see... people are surprised to learn I got an almost perfect score on my SATs (10 pts off) and got accepted into all 5 colleges I applied to (some with a full ride) but never went. At the time, we were having a lot of familial problems and I was just dropped through the cracks. Instead, I got pregnant the next year and had my oldest at 19 :) That same year, when Karsten was 6 months old, I started digital designing and never looked back! I'm now 2 classes away from a degree in Graphic Illustration.

Another shorty here... I'm 5'1" and my hubby is 6'3" :)

A lot of people are surprised that I want a big family (like, 5 kids)... and that I'm not "trying" for a boy. Really? I take what I can get! Even if that ends up meaning 5 girls (yes, it may be crazy later, but I don't have control over that!)

I'm really good at math and I really like it too. Yes, I'm a math nerd, and married one too. Because a majority of people don't like math, that is always surprising to them!

Nothing too exciting really. :)

I don't think I have anything too exciting either.

I went to 6 different colleges, but still graduated in 4 years and with only 1 degree.

I met my DH the very first day of my freshman year of college. We started dating within 2 weeks and have been together ever since...almost 18 years ago now.

There's probably a lot that people don't know, not sure if it's suprisng or not.

--I would rather watch people, than interact with them & am usually fairly quiet, not stuck up. :)
--I am a home body & am mostly happy with not having much of a social life, although there are times when I'd really like to go out & do something other than be the housewife.
--I LOVE learning & could spend lots of time researching new things
--I hate cleaning, but enjoy organizing & over organizing things.
--The most shocking to people who know me or have known me for a while...I haven't always been ""Good Girl"" as people think (not so much now, as opposed to pre-married/children life)

People are surprised by the fact that I used to be a competitive dancer (I even took 2nd place in the Nation once, with my troupe).

Because I've had 10 knee surgeries, I can't dance anymore, and I've gained quite a bit of weight, so it's really hard for people to see me in that sort of role...

I talk about it some so its probably not totally surprising, but people are often shocked that I
-carry a gun at work (military cop)
-am a vegetarian (because I don't like the taste of meat, not cause I am an animal rights person which always suprises people, though I don't kill animals, I don't think I should since I won't eat them)
-I am extremely liberal (people often assume everyone in the military leans conservative)

As a conservative Southern Baptist, most people are surprised to find that I don't toe the party line, either as an SB or as a Republican. In my world, it is assumed that Obama is the devil, and we take a lot of flack for supporting him {or at the very least for not hating him and ranting about how he's turning American into a communist nation}. It makes for some awkward moments as I out myself as a moderate and not a die hard conservative. ; )

The things people usually are surprised to find out about me:
1. I have 2 Masters degrees - one in business and one in accounting - and my undergrad is in international studies with concentrations in Chinese and religion. Most people think with the religion concentration, that it means theology and I know a lot about the Bible, but I studied comparative religion.
2. I've been a die-hard heavy metal fan for nearly 30 years - and we're not talking just Metallica and Black Sabbath, I'm into much harder stuff than that. People are surprised because I don't look like (and never have) a "typical" metalhead - I'm very conservative looking.
3. My husband is 8 years my junior. If they look at the two of us together, most people think I'm his age (33) and he's my age (41).

I thought of two really interesting things about my DH (sort of involves me).

When he was 18, he legally took the last name of his Step Father who raised him as well as changing his middle name to be named after him. Very honorable thing however, I now worry about his family name being lost. He was the only son. I can't imagine changing my middle and last name after 18 years.

And....his ex-wife had no eggs so, a donor egg was fertilized with his sperm and implanted and she carried the baby. That totally fascinates me.

Most people lately when they see me pregnant ask if this is my first child, so they are shocked when I tell them this is actually baby #5! They cant believe I have so many children at 27!

My ex-fiance told me a week before our wedding that he had met someone else and that he loved me but wasn't 'in love' with me, so there went nearly $20,000 down the drain as we couldn't get it back cause it was so close to the wedding.
I met my now DH a month later, and the rest is history!

Hummm surprised...
I'm trying to think what would surprise people that don't know me except through this screen...
Same as Julie I have a huge age gap between my two oldest sons-16 & 17 and our youngest-5.
My oldest and my youngest son are my husbands, but my middle son is my 1st husbands.
My house is a disaster area most of the time-It doesn't bother me to live in chaos-in fact it is when I am most comfortable.
I consider one of my best friends to be my 17 year old son-we are very close and he depends on me very much, and I the same...I think it ties into the fact that we have kinda grown up together. I love my other boys but my bond with him is the strongest.

Can definitely relate to this Shannon. My DD #1 who will be 19 on Wednesday :( is my rock. I don't know what I will do when she leaves home. She has been with me through everything. I made her sign a contract when she turned 18 that she won't leave home until she is 20! :p

Not much that people who know me irl would be shocked about...but online with people who don't know me very well....

I'm only 5'0" tall
I'm nearly 17 years older than my youngest sibling (full sibling at that)
I'm diagnosed Bipolar II
I met my husband online playing Yahoo! Cribbage (this was in 1999 when it wasn't so common as it is today...I don't know how many people told me that our marriage would fail because we didn't really "know" each other).
I was homeschooled starting in 8th grade and I started college at 16 (I now homeschool my daughter).

That's so awesome Darcy! We just celebrated our 10th anniversary in March. I can't tell you how many people that thought we'd never last a year married now tell us how perfect we are for each other and how we'll be together forever...lol.

This was so fun to read! I don't have much interesting but most people are surprised to find out I met my husband online. I really wasn't looking for a relationship so the first time we met face to face I brought a friend along that I was hoping they would have a connection. The second I saw him I forgot all about her :-)

I've always worked and have a pretty successful career but I've never had any desire to go to college, school bores the heck out of me!

that I took a pregnancy test this morning and it turned positive WHILE I was still peeing

ok, I'm terrible at keeping secrets... I'm just so excited even though I know that most likely it will be a miracle if I don't miscarry...

hmm... I'm a pretty open book so I don't know if there is anything new I haven't scrapped about. I'm super shy in person yet I can sing on Sunday mornings with a mic in front of thousands of people. I met hubby after I had given up on dating and was determined to be single the rest of my life. We were "just friends" and even had the "I'm not interested in you in THAT way" conversation before our pastor told us to get together, lol. Both of my kids were conceived with help. Moriah was a clomid baby and then after 4 miscarriages, Isaac was one of 5 embryos that survived IVF, we lost one at 7 weeks and the other 3 are frozen. Hence, this huge surprise... and praying for a miracle!

This thread is really interesting, I've really enjoyed reading it!

Most people are pretty shocked when they find out I got engaged at 14 and was married at 15. We went to a funeral the other day for one of my husbands friends wives and the people there were mostly all older couples and there was a lady there who was talking to me and my husband and she started talking about kids and asked if we had any and I told her yes and we were talking about graduation and she was like How old are you? How long have you guys been married? She was shocked when she found out I was married at 15 LOL. I think she said "Oh my word"

Me too!! in fact I just did a page on things few people know about me.
My husband actually challenged me to race against him. Him with calculator me without. I won, just barely, but i did.

Also at age 14 sI was arrested for civil disobedience. It was south africa in the late 80's

congrats heather!! *BIG STICKY VIBES*

NeeNee! My husband's name is a similar story. Most people assume that my maiden name is cronin and that I just hyphenated it when I got married but when my hubby was 20 he decided he was going to take on both his real dads and step dads names so thats where it comes from :)

Not sure I am all that interesting.

-I played the Oboe in middle school and some high school.
-I worked at Disneyland when I turned 17 until I left for college.
-I lived with two nuns at a retreat center in Wisconsin for a year when I was 25. It was a beautiful place where I hosted retreats. The sisters drank budweiser and wine from a box. People always find that the most fascinating part of my story about living there.

Congratulations Heather! Saying lots of prayers for this miracle to continue.

Yay Heather! That news deserves its own thread! I'll be praying this baby is safe and healthy in your womb!

KCB, I would totally be one of those assumers! I never knew that about your name.

One of my great-aunts is a nun, been so since she was a teenager and she's well into her 80s now and she's so not what you would assume a nun is like (at least from movies..lol). Wonderful woman, I would love to be able to name a daughter after her someday.

Congratulations Heather! Sending lots of sticky vibes your way!!

Hmmmm...

I'm one of seven kids...the oldest is 35 and the youngest is 8. I'm the third.

I'm double jointed and love to freak people out with my fingers. LOL!

I hate feet but love pedi's...is that weird?

I drive a lifted, 4-door, Jeep Rubicon. Nobody expects a girl to be driving it.

I was on The Price is Right...kissed Bob Barker on the cheek...made it to the Showcase Showdown and lost to a "Professional Clown" from Las Vegas.

um, I'm pretty boring ....

I met my DH, Des, when I was 12. He was friends with the brothers of one of my friends. 5 years later, I dated Des' best friend, and became pregnant at 17 with my now 15 year old son. Des was dating my best friend at the time. Des is Cody's godfather.

I am one of 4 children - I have an older brother (11 months older than me) and two younger half sisters (10 years and 14 years younger than me).
And I have 4 children - Cody, Jenna, Xander & Quinten (10 years between Cody and Quinten).
Cody lives with his father, Jenna has never met her father, and I am married to Xander & Quinten's father.

I didn't learn to drive until I was 27 and pregnant with my fourth child.

I have my tongue pierced.

Carrie - that's so cool that you were on the Price is Right! Do you have it recorded?

Let's see - interesting info about me. I met my husband while in marching band in college. We both played the alto saxophone. One of my relatives came over on the Mayflower. He was also the first English person to be hung in the colonies. (he murdered someone) I'm also a princess :) lol

Yay! Congrats Heather!

I'm kinda boring person...

-our language is French.
-DH and I are both only children so we decided to have a big family because we kinda suffered because of it (mostly me, though)
-I went to a Catholic private high school, I'm baptized, but I never set foot in a Church, except for funerals.
-I'm very very very liberal.
-My youngest was born in my own bed, with a midwife. It was planned, I never gave birth in a hospital (2 times at a birthing home and once at home)
-I'm a doula and a breastfeeding monitor
-I work for private investigators (write their reports, etc.)

When I attended Elementary Schoool, I used to be Maths, Physics and Chemistry nerd, winning all the regional competitions :)

But when I came to the High School (1997) I discovered internet then and became computer addict :)

Internet was just beginning, we have limited number of computers conencted at the IT class (mostly 386 and 486 type) and we had to wait until someone else finishes. So I corrupted our IT admins! I used to bring them home-baked tarts and bunt cakes so they have the fastest PC for me reserved! It was PII 266 MHz and that time it was one of the best machines :) It was just for me... :)
