I really didn't think I'd be tempted - but the whole multi tasking ability is REALLY tempting! I'm not eligible for an upgrade until next Feb though!

I would LOVE one but I am stuck with verizon until feb 24, 2012. Had I known how cool it was I would have waited. now I'm stuck.

I like the software and capability upgrades, but I don't like that they made it so boxy. I won't be upgrading for another year or more, so it doesn't affect me much.

I agree, I'm not sure why they did that OR made the back glass as well??

I'd sure love to be able to run Pandor and Runkeeper at the same time though!!

Can't you rrun itunes with RunKeeper though? iTunes keeps playing with a lot of my apps. But I dunno, I don't have runkeeper (there are so many friggen running apps like that! Lol!).

I am getting one! I don't know when yet but soon. I am up for a contract renewal in December but I know they are offering early upgrades if yours is up in 2010. So we will see what ATT says when I go talk to them.

I have the 3G and not all the new ios4 software features are compatible on the 3G. I do not think multi tasking is avaiable for the 3G.

I'm not up for renewal until 12/1/2010, the text I got with my eligibility info said they can offer me a discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price with a 2yr agreement and $18 upgrade fee. So I'll be waiting til December when I'm eligible for a full discount on my upgrade.

I only got my iPhone 3G a few months ago, so won't be upgrading until mid 2011 sometime(unless they are kind to me in a few months time, which I doubt :D), to be honest though my 3G does everything I need, and if I need to do anything else whilst listening to music I can just run iTunes instead of Spotify! :)

I'm only a year into my contract so I'm not eligible to upgrade anyway, but since I already have the 3GS, I'm not seeing anything about the new iPhone that I just have to have. I am excited for the new OS upgrade though.

crecia27

So the OS upgrade will allow the functionality? I read the 3Gs will be going down to $99 so I may look into that instead if so!

I think the 3GS is supposed to have the full functionality of the new OS but the 3G and older will have some features not available. But multitasking is available on the 3GS.

From Apple's site:
Compatibility

iOS 4 works with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G. Not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking is available only with iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

Itunes is set up to run "in the background" (I had to look this up today actually, trying to figure out how to get my Nike+ playlist to shuffle). But I guess it works for me because I have the 3GS. ::shrugs:: I'm content with what I have for a while, since there's zero chance of Jordan letting me upgrade anytime soon, LOL!

Speaking of this, I am really contemplating buying my first iPhone on July 1st when my contract with Sprint/Nextel ends but I was wondering on average just how much the iPhone costs a month. I know you have to have the regular plan plus a data plan but then they have a messaging plan listed too... I'm confused. Does the data plan include messaging? I am starting to text a lot now and this is a must for me.

Oh, and is the 16 gig sufficient or should I suck it up and get the 32 gig?

aggiefamily
06-08-2010, 06:55 PM
Text messaging is extra and not included in the data plan.

Unless you have a massive amount of music I would think the 16G is fine. My music takes up the most space on mine- about 3x more than my apps!

Lyd

I have been wanting an iPhone so bad ever since the 3G model came out. Hubby hates AT&T, though, and we've been on a family plan, so . . . .

I'm hoping that the Verizon rumors will pan out this time and I can switch at the end of the year. There have been so many Verizon rumors over the last few years, though, so I'm not holding my breath.

I am eligible for an upgrade ... I just haven't done it yet because it is an extra expense that isn't high on the priority list at the moment.

I've had nothing but excellent service from AT&T. I was with Cingular before they bought them (or whatever that mess was) and my service has only improved. I had Verizon before I switched severl years ago and had multiple problems with them. Just throwin that out there ;)

16GB is totally fine. I was on the fence and decided that it wasn't worth the additional $100, and I'm really glad I went with the 16gb. It's still a TON of space and music files are not that big.

My cell phone bill runs around $120-$130 a month. We have the smallest family plan there is (550 nation-wide, and since I'm such an old customer we still have rollover, we get free nights and weekends and free mobile to mobile - and most of our friends are on AT&T now, so we never even get CLOSE to 550 minutes a month, lol). The data plan is $29.99 a month, and then I have a $5 text messaging plan. I tend to go over, but it's not worth the extra money for the higher texting plan for us.

crecia27
06-08-2010, 07:03 PM
My husband put the kabosh on mine too! But I might figure out a way to work some OT and get the 3gs, I really don't need the 4 if I can most of the other stuff with a phone 1/2 the cost. Hoping my 18 yr old will give me some $$ for my current phone ;-)

I spend $30 for the iphone service then anther $30 for unlimited texting for the 3 of us. I never texted much but got unlimited because of my son - and now I send of 3k a month myself! I'd love to lower that part of the cost.

ColleenSwerb
06-08-2010, 07:05 PM
The text messaging is where they really make the money off people. It costs NOTHING to send texts, the amount of data is so small. It makes Jordan nuts, lol.

Shawna
06-08-2010, 07:10 PM
Kat I think the individual plans are $39.99 (450min), $59.99 (900min) & $69.99 for unlimited minutes, all plans have free unlimited nights & weekends & mobile to mobile with other AT&T customers plus Rollover of your unused anytime minutes. There are also Family Talk plans if you have more than one phone on your account, those start at $69.99 plus $9.99 for each add'l line. They are changing the data plans this month but ours are currently $30/line for unlimited data and we pay $30/mo for unlimited texting. They have other texting options though if you don't need the unlimited, before we added my brother to our account (he's 19 and only texts so we had to have the unlimited!) we paid $5/mo for 200 texts.

I've been waiting to be eligible for an iPhone, I have until July 1. DH is eligible now but he hates Apple & won't swap me eligibilities even though his phone is dying & I have a perfectly good Pantech he could use. The phone he wants is verizon only & our contract is not up until Feb 1, 2011. So he's very against my getting an iphone & renewing our contract in July. But I want one. Verizon sucks around here coverage wise so probably I will win this one. Probably I will get the 3G, not the 4. I'd rather get the 4 but there is no real advantage in the multitaking for me. depends on the cost at the time. I just want to combine my cell & mp3 player. The apps are a bonus

If I'm using Runkeeper, I have to start the iPod first, then go to Runkeeper, otherwise it messes it up. I have a playlist just for running so I put it on shuffle, and off I go.

Yes, I discovered that's how I have to do it to get it to shuffle in the Nike+. Start itunes in my workout mix, then start Nike+. And Nike+ will run in the background too as I discovered last night (I got a text while I was configuring the sensor and I replied to it and everything while Nike+ AND itunes were still going, lol). But I made the switch last June and it has been so worth it. I've actually been rather impressed with AT&T's service. Plus we went and got my DH a new non-iPhone phone at AT&T last week and the people there were way more helpful than anyone we ever dealt with at Verizon.

Oh and I have the 32GB phone and it's more than half full so the 16GB would not have been enough for me. I'm not really a music person though so the majority of that is videos, movies and tv shows. When you start doing video, the space fills up fast.

Our bill is around the same as Col's. It's $130/mo for three phones (only one iPhone) with 750 anytime minutes (plus over 6000 in roll-over), the unlimted data plan and 200 text messages per month (I'm dinged for incoming and outgoing). We'll be dropping a line come April since we never use it (it's my old phone that died a slow and miserable death) so our bill will go down a little.

When my little brother was looking into getting his iPhone we found it was WAY cheaper to just add him to our existing family plan than for him to get his own plan, his part of the bill is only $60 compared to the $100+ it would have been! So our bill is about $225/mo total but that is for 2 Blackberry's and an iPhone so 3 data plans and unlimited texting. We could probably cut our bill by about $30/mo now that AT&T has these cheaper data plans but since we both want to switch to iPhones at our next upgrade we may stick with what we have until then.

I will be paying £70 a month for both of them, but I'm useless with converting to $ lol, we both have unlimited texts too as that's all we do if we're not in the house together! :D

ColleenSwerb
06-09-2010, 08:40 AM
Yea, it can def be expensive if you're not used to that data plan charge. I had a Blackberry before I got my iPhone, so other than the $200 to buy the actual phone, it hasn't cost me anything more than I was already paying every month. So it just made sense for me (especially when my ipod was on it's last legs, and I can't survive without music at work, lol).

We switched from Sprint to AT&T last year so both my husband and I could get iPhones and we LOVE it! We HATED Sprint and havent had any problems with AT&T. We arent eligible for upgrades right now but Im not chomping at the bit to get a new phone either. Im very happy with my iPhone 3Gs.

I have no complaints about AT&T whatsoever, but hubby had some bad experience with them when we lived in Tucson. We've been with Sprint and Verizon as well, and I've never had problems with any of them. Hubby has had problems with all of them, but Verizon has been the best. He works out in a research complex near two big hospitals, and I think all that concrete interferes with his signal.

I do think the iPhone will be available on Verizon eventually, but I'm really not counting on it this year - there have been too many rumors for too long. But, if they don't switch soon, I'm just going to have to convince hubby to let me switch to AT&T. He can stay with his current phone on Verizon if he wants. :)

I would SOOO love an iPhone. I feel like an old lady without any kind of data plan. But we already have 4 cellphones, and are looking to add 2 more for the twins this summer. And NO plan allows 6 phones. Hoping to jump on my sister's family plan for the 6th if they have unlimited texting. As soon as we do that, I'm dumping my home phone and going cell-phone only.

But still no iPhone in my near future. :(

I am planning on getting a 32gb iPhone 4 at some point. I figure with video recording, the more memory the better. Part of me is convinced that as soon as I extend my contract with AT&T, the Verizion iPhone will appear so I may just wait until November when our contract expires.

The only reason I want to go back to Verizon is b/c my sister won't switch to AT&T. :cursing:

What I'm really excited for is when Netflix becomes available for the iPhone.

I have the sad little 8gig ;) But I have a bajillion songs on it and about 5 pages of apps.
Unless you have an enormous music library, or if you plan to put TV shows or movies on, you should be fine with the 16gig. When I sync a movie on it, it takes up a couple of gigs.

Hee hee - see I'm one of those with an enormous music library - about 50 GB. But, I just have a separate iPod for that. I wouldn't depend on an iPhone for my music, just like I don't depend on my iTouch for music.

I have the iPhone 3G right now and am available for an upgrade in July. I really didn't think I would be interested in the 4G cuz I didn't think it would do much more than any of the other ones, but I watched the conference video from Steve Job on Apple's site and I was soooo drawn in to the 4G! Now I want one really bad. I like the option of multi-tasking and being able to create folders on my pages. I know some of the functionality on my 3G will not be available with the new iOS4, like the multi-tasking. I figure if I'm going to upgrade, I should go ahead and upgrade to the 4G versus the 3GS.

We were Verizon also up until a year ago. My husband and I were both Blackberry users. My hubby loved his blackberry and I thought it was ok but had ALWAYS wanted an iPhone, so I finally talked him into moving over to AT&T. I am REALLY happy with the move and he has been ok with the move. He misses the multi-tasking ability that he had with his blackberry. Sooooo, I see 2 new 4G's in our future! LOL But I can say that our service and connection with AT&T has been 10 times better than what we had with Verizon and everyone that talks to me on the phone has told me how much better the connection sounds also. So all in all, we are really pleased with the switch!!!

We just switched from AT&T to Sprint and got the HTC EVOs- and love, love, love them.

We weren't looking to switch, but we are so glad we did. We actually had gone shopping to learn more about the new iphones because 2 of our 3 phones were eligible for new ones. We have been with AT&T forever- we still had rollover minutes- and were planning on getting 3 of the new iphones, but once we compared plans (we are saving close to $70 per month, plus we added one more data plan, and several features that cost extra with AT&T were included with Sprint such as push to talk and the Sprint navigation system - AT&T's cost $9.99 per month per phone if we wanted it them) and researched the EVO's, we were sold.

Is Sprint now offering good upgrade costs for returning customers? Thats why I first left them is they only gave a small price off phones for current customers but gave great deals to new ones. I figured they'd eventually have to in order to stay competitive but I wanted a new cool phone that day so I went next door to cingular ;)
