We're on the road again! ...but THIS time NOT for Robotics ... but for vacation! I'm typing as I travel down I-70 (I  my Sprint Mi-Fi!!!) ... we're going to spend the night tonight in Hays, KS.
Friday morning we get up and drive through Colorado Springs so the boys can see the mountains (see we're from KS...they don't know what mountains really look like) and then on to Santa Fe, New Mexico to spend the night .... dh remembers there being some jewelry for sale among other things in that town ...
Saturday morning we get up and drive on to Sun City West, Arizona where my mom just bought a house last month. We're going to stay with her for 4 days ...
and one day in there we are planning on driving to the Grand Canyon and back to mom's house ...
Thursday, June 17th, we will head out and stay the night in Albuquerque, New Mexico ....
Friday we will go to Oklahoma City, OK and see my bff, **STACY** and her family ... spend the night ... and then we are going to the Red Earth Festival (http://www.redearth.org/red-earth-festival/) together before we head back to Kansas City that afternoon.
I think we will be ready to get back home ... we've never ever driven that much as a family in one trip!!
Anyone going to be around any of those places?? I'd love to meet for coffee or something if we can manage it ... although dh will be anxious to move along ... but we'll be in Sun City West several days if anyone is in that area.
Anyone in the Oklahoma City area that wants to meet Stacy and me at the Red Earth Festival (http://www.redearth.org/red-earth-festival/) on June 19th?

If you're not busy Friday night ... maybe you could come by our hotel and sit and chat awhile ... I booked a hotel that had an indoor pool so the kids could swim and Stacy & I could chat ...
I made Stacy's daughter a few (extremely) simple dresses and I'm going to sit there and sew on some ribbon straps (because I need to measure) while we chat ...
...so if you are free Friday night (June 18th) ... drop me a PM and I'll give you my hotel info! Would be fun to meet up with you!

Oh that might work! I will check with hubby and make sure there are no plans for that evening! So exciting! I don't care what we are doing. It would just be nice to meet the both of you and relax a little bit. :)

I'm in Colorado Springs, right off of where Highway 24 meets I-25, so you'll have to wave as you drive by! When we moved here we flew into Dallas and then drove here and I just remember on the last day driving and driving and wondering when in the world we were finally going to get to the mountains because it was SO flat. But I promise they are here! :D
It doesn't sound like you're spending much time here but if you have time, you might consider driving through Garden of the Gods (http://www.gardenofgods.com/home/index.cfm?flash=1). It's a really spectacular place and you could probably drive through in about 20 minutes if you didn't get out and do any of the walking parts. But it's free and you can see the majority of it from your car if you're in a hurry.

I second Garden of the Gods - it's one of the places we visited when in Colorado Springs last summer on vacation and it is truly spectacular! :)
You were north of me since you went through Hays so I waved to you. ;) Have a great vacation - you are going to see a ton of the US with that drive! :)

ok typing fast...tried to reply twice and went through the mountains and lost reception....
Garden of the Gods was fantastic ... thank you SOOOOOOOOOOO much for recommending it. Somehow I must have lost my teenagers behind some of those big boulders...these 2 identical ones came out from behind the rocks, climbed up on them and called "hey mom take my picture! ... mom look at me now! ... did you get it yet?" ....I'm not sure who these kids were ... but they sure were more fun than the teenagers I usually have with me ... and they look IDENTICAL ... so no one will know when I scrap the pictures later that aliens abducted my boys ... lol
...thanks for some great scenery and photographic opportunities!!
...now where should we go in Santa Fe, NM???? lol ...we're almost there!

I had such hope when I first read your thread because we were on vacation this week too...but on the Eastern end of I-70. Bummer. Would have loved to have met you IRL Sharon!
Hope you're having a fun trip! Glad your kids were so cooperative about pictures. That makes it even more fun.
