Video converter for Ipod

Anyone have recommendations for free converters for my Canon camera video (.mov) to be converted to the format needed for an ipod? I googled but am paranoid to download without recommendations :) Thanks!

We have Adobe Premier Elements. DH said to go to download.com and search for a video utility and you should be able to trust anything from there because they are owned and monitored by cnet. If you have Adobe Premier you can import most any video format and export to another video format. We got it in a bundle with PSE.
