His orders FINALLY went through and today he's getting promoted to Major! :thumbup: He didn't want a regular ceremony (which I totally protested but he wouldn't budge for some reason) so he's just being pinned at work..but he is under strict instructions to get photos for me. I don't know why he didn't want a traditional ceremony thingy I told him I deserved it as much as he did lol..but anyway yay for his promotion!

Mine never has a big ceremony but we always have to pay for a party for the squadron. Usually we can share the cost with a couple other guys but I'm not sure about the next one coming up (to LtCol) since there was only one other guy on base that was in the same board. THAT is gonna be expensive!

Its just the way some guys want it (less hooplah) and hey...at least the pay raise is nice! Maybe you could just take a nice pic after work of him in his new rank.

Congrats to both of you!!! ..and I understand on the frustration ... while this is not near the magnitude of your news ... my son earned the Boy Scout Eagle ... and he refused an Eagle ceremony ... but finally got him to agree to receive his badge in a "regular" court of honor. I hope you get pictures ... and again ... congrats to both of you ... and thank you for your dh's service!! ... and you for supporting him!

Oh, no! That would have upset me, too. My brother is an Eagle Scout and I got the Girl Scout Gold Award and we both had small ceremonies.

That's so exciting Nikki...and I agree, he should have a ceremony! Is there anyway you and the kids can go for the pinning? My sis-in-law went for my brothers at that rank. My brother will be Captain (in the Navy O-6) at the end of August, so he is having a ceremony for that! Thankfully, he and his family will fly out to northern Calif (from DC) to have it near my parents house. They are elderly and my mom has alzheimers. There is no way they could've gone back for it and it's so important to them to be there!

Thanks everyone! I did pin him when he was promoted to Captain..but Major is a much bigger deal so I was disappointed..but my DH is just weird about stuff and he didn't want it so there you go.

He promised he would get a pic for me though so I hope he did.

The pay raise is really nice of course with his new position he's now driving 160 miles round trip everyday...so gas is taking a chunk of it unfortunately :(
