I am going to the library tomorrow and need some good books to read. I usually end up wandering the newly bought section and just grabbing something that looks interesting. I read a lot of mysteries, no chick lit, but tell me what your favorite recent books have been.

I love the In Death series by JR Robb (Nora Roberts other pen name)- main character is a homicide cop- I love murdery mystery books.

I also just started reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward- its another vampire series but man its really good!

Half of a Yellow Sun--- its fictional African lit and FASCINATING.

Also go to the Nelson DeMille section and read any of his books. I'd reccomend the Talbot Oddysey or The Charm SChool, or The Lion's Game

My favorite 'light' reads are mystery/thrillers too.
Right now I'm reading James Patterson's Alex Cross series...great reads.
I also really like Stephen White's Alan Gregory series and Patricia Cornwell's Scarpetta series.

Ugh..later Scarpetta series just bug me. Between her and Lucy - they're such whiners LOLOLOL I love the early part of the series, though - LOVE them. Body Farm is one of my favorite books!

If you have't read John Dunning's Booked to Die - do so - especially if you're a book lover!

I just finished Rueful Death - a China Byles Herbal Mystery by Susan Wittig Albert. It's a series about a lawyer cum PI who is big into growing herbs :)

Diane Mott Davidson culinary mysteries are fun if you're into food.

Book Thief - Two big thumbs up

This one is totally not fiction, but it's fascinating and an easy read: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. I recommend all the books in that series, The Tipping Point and Blink, but Outliers is my fave.

The Book Thief is one of my favorite books!! I finished The Girl That Kicked the Hornets Nest (http://www.amazon.com/Girl-Who-Kicked-Hornets-Nest/dp/030726999X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1279723808&sr=1-1), I'm really sad the series is over, I really liked all of them. Last week I read The God of Small Things (http://www.amazon.com/God-Small-Things-Novel/dp/0812979656/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1279723707&sr=1-1), it was good but kind of a downer book, and then Speak (http://www.amazon.com/Speak-Anniversary-Laurie-Halse-Anderson/dp/0142414735/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1279723743&sr=1-1), it's a young adult book, and The Girls He Adored (http://www.amazon.com/Girls-He-Adored-Jonathan-Nasaw/dp/0671787454/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1279723670&sr=1-1)which is a mystery thriller, a fine beach read, nothing memorable. I'm trying to decide what to start next, I got a couple new ones from paperbackswap this week (YES!!)

Another James Patterson and Patricia Cornwell fan here too!

Also for a fun read try the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich- seriously hilarious. I NEVER laugh out loud reading books and these have me giggling a lot.

Yes I definitely agree with you there! The past 4 or 5 books have been...not so hot. But the earlier ones are really good, and Body Farm is my favorite too :)
