DH and I were planning a getaway to Denver. Just found out my dad has free tickets, so we can fly anywhere SW flies- contemplating Seattle, San Fran, Denver or Reno/Tahoe... If you were planning a kid-free getaway and hoping not to spend TOO much $, where would you go? We love the mountains and want to escape the Texas heat... :)

Voted Seattle, definitely. There's alot to do in the city, and the surrounding area is fantastic...so scenic...would LOVE to move up there. We based out of Port Angeles, Tumwater (near Olympia), and Bellingham, not Seattle itself, although we did spend some time in the city. I visited 3 years in a row, and it wasn't enough...as much as I love Texas, the Northwest was just amazing...I couldn't get over how GREEN the green was. LOL
*ferries on Puget Sound...day trip to Friday Harbor and whale watching. If you rent a car, you can drive the 85 miles from Seattle to Anacortes and then walk on the ferry (alot cheaper than taking your car)...San Juan Island itself has bus service (we spent the day at a lavender farm and at Lime Kiln State Park watching 2 pods of orcas play near the coast!)
*Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges (inc Mt Rainier and Mt St Helens)
*LOTS of waterfalls
*the Hoh rainforest...bit of a drive, but SO worth it (we stayed in Forks when we went there...back when nobody had ever heard of it)
*wherever you decide to go, you might want to check and see if there's a CityPass (http://www2.citypass.com/) available. If enough of the attractions interest you, it can save some money.

I say SF too. I'm so looking forward to getting down there sometime before the end of the year.
Reno is pretty hot right now, although Tahoe is beautiful.

San Francisco is my favorite city and there's so much to do and see -- Alcatraz, the streetcars, Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf and driving distance to Napa. It'd definitely be my pick!

Oh...this is a toughy. I grew up near San Francisco and I go up when ever I can. I love love love the city. We lived near Seattle for 11 years and it's been several years since I've been back up there, so I'd want to go there too. I know both cities pretty well, and I'd have a really hard time choosing myself. I'm going to have to say SF though...but mainly it's because then I'd be close enough to drive down to Santa Cruz...my hometown. Or...maybe I'd choose Seattle so I could go to a Mariner's game. I feel homesick everytime I watch a game or listen to them on the radio...
LOL...I'm obviously no help! Have fun...you can't go wrong!

San Fran for sure. Denver is the only place I haven't been on the list.
So much to do out there. We were stationed a couple hours from San Fran and went every chance we got. Just a really cool city, lots to do.

So next year we are doing San Fran- and stopping along the way in Laguna Beach and Napa to visit family- we may even make it a big California trip and take the rest of the fam with us.
I was REALLY leaning toward Seattle, but since I would want to hit Canada while I was up north too and don't have a passport, we're waiting on this trip.
I think Reno/Tahoe would be a blast too- but since we both like to gamble and are trying NOT to spend much on this trip, probably not a good idea.
Turns out we can only use the tickets one-way and since we have to spring for hotel, car and return flights, we're going with the cost-efficient Denver trip after all. We are planning on visiting a friend in Colorad Springs and possibly a few "day trips" while in Colorado too.
Just the break we needed! :) Thanks for the input girls- I plan on checking out all these paces in the next year or so! :)

I'd go to Seattle only because that's the only place on your list that I haven't been. I've always wanted to go to Seattle.
