Our oldest dd will be 16 in two weeks. DH and I would like to give her something "extra special"/memorable for her birthday; it is her "sweet 16" after all. :) Unfortunately, we live hours from any city (or decent size town for that matter), so for example, concert tickets or something similar probably wouldn't work. She has a phone, TV, iPod. I did get her a beautiful little ring with her birthstone and also a gift card to her favorite clothing store, but we would like to get her one "big" gift (that does not have 4 wheels, as that is out of the question) lol Any ideas? (TIA)!!

I was going to suggest a ring, but you already mentioned that! Ummm... this may be a bit odd, but when I was 16, my favourite thing was a mini fridge. Right now, a lot of them are on sale for back to school.

I loved it because it made my room feel more pre-dorm than bedroom... I also was able to start storing my nail polish in there (it lasts longer that way) and have a few small snacks on hand for my close friends.

My parents got mine for $30 on Craigslist...

Hmm.... let me dust away the cobwebs in my brain for when I was 16.

I remember I got a ring (I would get a nice ring with my birthstone for all the "milestones"... 13, 16, 18, 21, and 30)... which you already got. Then the other really nice thing I remember getting is real perfume...

I know for my 13th b-day my mom took me and 2 of my friends to the Mall of America for a shopping trip. We stayed at a hotel and had a ton of fun. MOA had just opened then so it was a real novelty :) Obviously MOA is a bit far from you - but maybe you could do something like that??

we actually gave my DD the option...did she want to upgrade and get a flat screen TV or a notepad laptop :) she chose the TV :) we also gave her some money and she went shopping with one of her grilfriends since I happened to be deployed last year and wasn't here to celebrate it with her :)

maybe let her do a small remodel of her room? (like painting, new bedding set, maybe a cute little chair to match). I know my daughter always loved it when I would get her a new bedding set and pillows and little things to pretty up her room. And since 16 is supposed to be like a milestone signifying a young girl becoming more mature. A laptop if she does not have one. a weekend trip somewhere special.

I hope its ok that I post this here but have you ever heard of Scentsy Wickless candles? Its a warmer that runs off a 25 watt light bulb that warms specially formulated scented wax. The scents are fabulous and the warmers are gorgeous. If you would like more information please email me! amber@kazmir.net
