well, yesterday I began the road to a new, happier me! I had lap-band surgery done! Its been a long process for me- I began thinking about this back in August 09 but our insurance didnt cover it at that time. So I had to wait until January when we switched insurances that did cover the surgery. Then I had to do a 6 month diet to show the insurance company that I tried to lose weight. I finished that in Junet and the paperwork was submitted and I was approved in less than a week!
Surgery went well yesterday- Im a little sore but its definitely not as bad as my 2 prior c-sections! It was laporoscopic surgery so Im having a lot of gas pains but nothing that gas-x and my pain meds cant handle!
Has anybody on the boards has this surgery done or contemplating doing it?

Wow... good for you!! My step-dad's sister had it done a few years back... I don't know how much weight she lost, but she is very happy that she did it...

Good luck with it! Congrats on taking the step to a healthier/happier you!
One of my good friends had it done- I think she was happy with the results but still had to work pretty hard to lose weight. She did lose a lot though and even was able to go off her meds for diabetes. She got pregnant and had a baby not long after that so I think it was good for her that she got so much healthier. Good luck to you!

Today has been not so good- Ive been running a low grade fever which the nurse said is normal. Still not having too much pain but oh man the gas is wicked.

Hope you start to feel better soon! I know this must have been a tough decision to make, and I can't for updates on how you look and feel in next year or so!!
This has been something that has been on my own mind for the last few years. I am not 100% sure on it yet.

the gas was the worst part for me...it took me a full probably month before i felt better...and longer than that to eat sort of normal.
just remember, the beginning is rough, but it is SOOO worth it in the end. you're health (both physical and mental) will be so much better...and it's always fun to see the look on people's face when they see you for the first time in a long time :p

My friend had gastric bypass about ten years ago and is thrilled. She said the worst part was immediately after, the first few weeks. She's had relatively little issues with dumping.
She wrote an article about it, you cam pm me if you want to read it.

Congrats to you and best wishes for a speedy recovery! I want to have this done too, I have heard that our insurance will cover it starting in September ad plan to talk to my doctor then. I have known about 4 people who've had it done- the biggest thing I noticed was you really do need to work out with weights, you lose weight so fast you can get a lot of sagging skin, eek!
And Laura, my big sis, you look fantastic! I never would've known!

Jen and Melissa- I did a LOT of research on the surgery before I decided to do it- there is a great website called www.lapbandtalk.com if you want more info. Or feel free to email me at amber@kazmir.net or PM me here if you want more info!
