My 15 year-old dd had hers removed Thursday. She has a sensation of a lump in the back of her throat, which the doctor said would be normal. Today she says it feels like if she bends over, it will "fall out". She is not running a fever, and is acting fine (well, as fine as you can act after getting your tonsils yanked out..lol).. I hate to call the doctor for every little thing. I tend to be a worrywart by nature and am trying very hard to get over it (if you ever can)! We live two hours from the hospital and so this makes me nervous, should anything go wrong. I am hoping that this is normal?

Because you live so far away, it might not hurt to call your doctor and see if you can explain it to him. I don't really remember what that felt like, because I got mine out a VERY long time ago... but I would call your doctor if it will make you feel better.

Thanks Happy. I was just doing some "research" on the internet and it appears to be a normal thing. The "uvula" (the dangly thing in the back of your throat) is swollen after a tonsillectomy and if it's "dangly" to begin with, then the swelling would make it feel larger and if you bend over, then it would probably feel like a "lump" of mucus trying to fall out. It makes sense to me. Geez, I learn something new every day. lol
