So DH and I watched Julie and Julia over the weekend..he'd never seen it and you know how that movie just makes you HUN-gry...so he asked me to try to make Julia's Beef bourguignon...yeah...but I like to cook and try new recipes so I gathered all my ingredients...I spent hours today getting it prepared, etc. (which is no easy feat with a 20 mo old under my feet) i take it out of the oven a little while ago to give it a taste test and OH MY GOSH it was awful. Apparently the red wine I used had gone bad..as in it tasted more like I dumped 3 cups of vinegar into it. I seriously just wanted to cry..I mean it was awful and completely unedible. And it was definitely the wine..I tasted it...it was like vinegar. why oh why didn't I taste it before I used it..it was only a few days old...but DH had left it out on the counter and I guess that did it. UGH...

looks like it's BLT's for supper tonight :(

Bummer!!!! If it makes you feel any better.....today on the menu I was suppose to have ribs which would of required me to put them in the crock pot this morning before leaving for school. Yep, totally forgot so now we are having sandwiches! Bummer.

That is a bummer! I like trying new recipes too, but it is always so disappointing when something goes wrong!!

Add some egg salad to your BLTs - it's yummy!

Oh boo! That sucks.
I'd been craving biscuits and gravy for weeks and decided to make some. It's one of the first things I learned to cook so it seemed so easy. Yeah... about 1/2 way through cooking the gravy I realized it didn't look or smell right... turns out I used flour that we bought when we bought the house two years ago. I hardly ever use flour and when I asked the hubs to get it out for me I didn't even look at what container he brought me.

I had a similar problem today. I made this Chinese chicken dish for the first time & I could have sworn it said add one cup Rice Wine VINEGAR.

Nope, it said Rice Wine

tangy would be one way to describe it

So sorry, Nikki! :( Totally sounds like something I'd do...of all the rotten luck though! You'll blow it outta the water next time :)

oh nikki! I can feel your pain - I am just sick when a recipe goes really wrong and this one sounds like it was a lot of work. :(

It kind of makes me want to try it though....I loved that movie.

Oh, no! That is so frustrating when something silly like that ruins a recipe.

Its movie picnic night for us and I choose to grab take out since we had missed the last few weeks. So mine was easy.

I'm so sorry Nikki! But if it makes you feel any better, I once grabbed Worcestershire sauce instead of Teriyaki sauce when making a marinade for a flank steak for the grill. Needless to say, that beautiful flank steak couldn't be eaten.

I think we can all tell a story like that. I'm sure your hubby appreciated what you did, though. Beef bourguignon isn't easy to make!

Sorry for that, although it sounds almost like one of the scenarios in the movie! But that of course is no comfort for you!

Can I just tell you how impressed I am that you even tried?! My step mother-in-law gave me the Julia Child cookbook with that movie for Christmas & I have never tried to make any of the recipes. I get overwhelmed just reading them. Love me some Rachel Ray 30 min meals!

I agree that it sounds like that a scene from the movie! I once made chili for a big group and put in 2 cans chilis instead of 2 canned chilis. You can imagine how that turned out.

I *heart* that movie.

I could tell many a tale of cooking gone wrong. I admire that you even attempted that recipe. Next time I'm sure it will be wonderful.

Thanks for commiserating with me everyone lol...it did kind of feel like a scene from the movie lol. And yes that recipe is not approached lightly lol...and I planned..I had everything laid out and I followed it to the letter... not to mention the wasted money on ingredients...I can say the dogs appreciated all my hard work though lol

so ..note to self...always sample the wine first :)
