All ok here - in rural NZ just NW of Chch, probably 20-30km from the epicentre. Another aftershock.... Worst damage for us was the potplant on the kitchen windowsill! DS has been awake and grizzly from 3am so we were sort of awake when hit. DD(3) slept thru it all! She said when she got up that she had not slept well! We seem to have escaped pretty unscathed around here, unlike folks in Christchurch itself, and Darfield - a country township even closer to the centre. Didn't even loose power or phone. Are all rather tired now though.
Sounds like the postie has just been!

Thank goodness it WAS in the early hours as it meant that very few folks out on the streets. Centre of Chch is a bit of a mess according to news, as fronts have fallen out of buildings - bricks and glass.

Pretty sure Jacinda is unaffected and ok b/c she posted in a CT forum this afternoon (430ish EST) and the earthquake was like 1230ish EST I think.
She's in Auckland..not sure when Jennifer was here last I'll go try and peek now
**ETA** Jennifer hasn't been on since yesterday evening..but she's in Auckland as well so hopefully all is ok!

ok they sell flights from Auckland to Christchurch so I'm pretty sure they are pretty far away and were unaffected...(sorry my NZ friends I'm not up to part on my geography oops)

Aw, you guys are so sweet to be concerned. Jennifer and I are in Auckland which is a long way (and another separate island) from where Christchurch is. We didn't feel a thing here. Hubby's parents are about 20kms from the epicentre. I texted them to see if they were OK, and their reply was "We're OK, house OK, contents are a mess. Still getting aftershocks." And that was a good 6 hours after it happened.
Glad you're ok and your DH's parents too, Jacinda.

It's amazing how little damage we have here and what it looks like 15km away. We have been getting aftershocks all day and have just had another cluster of them. You can hear the rumbling before you start to wobble. Feeling a bit disorientated still!

yes, I'm all ok, nowhere near where the earthquake was (I am about an hour an a half by plane or 2 days drive including a ferry ride) - just been working Friday night & all day Saturday so haven't been online. The only effects I have had is telling all our Pizza Hut customers in Christchurch that currently all stores are closed until further notice - I'm estimating it will be Tuesday before we are fully back in business down there with both pick ups & deliveries.

I'm glad to hear you (and your family) are ok. I saw it on the news, w/ images that scared me...
Sending prayers too.
