What age did you let your girls start shaving their legs?

I don't know about now, but I very much remember that all the girls started in the 6th grade when I was young.

When I was in 6th grade (so 12) I won a trip to Washington D.C. - it was on this trip that I was introduced to shaving the legs. I wasn't with my family - surrounded my girls my age and a little older. I still remember sitting in the hotel room with shaving cream lathered all over my legs lol
So anyways - I started shaving around 12.
I was wondering the same thing, Kjersti. Joy, my 11 year old, has quite a bit more body hair than I ever did (or do). She takes after her daddy I guess. ;) The hair on her legs is blonde, but she is starting to get hair under her arms that is darker. I guess it is time for me to realize she won't be a little girl forever -- but it is sooooooo hard. I am thinking it is about time for me to teach her to shave. So not looking forward to it tho.

My dd was 11...she was a hairy thing too!
I think I was in 5th grade when I started shaving..I had DARK hair on some skinny legs lol
It was 6th grade for me too - towards the end of that school year. I was 11.
Kjersti, just explain to your daughter what a pain in the rear it is to shave and that once she starts, she'll have to keep it up. Why not enjoy the hairy legs while she can? :) I know, I know . . . I was totally excited to start shaving my legs too. And, I was excited to start wearing a bra. What is wrong with girls that age? LOL!

My dd started shaving last year, in the 6th grade (around 11yo). She only does her legs though, doesn't need to shave her armpits yet, still just peach fuzz under there, lol
Don't get me started on the bra thing. OMG! Joy is already wearing a bra and actually needs it. I think I was in HS before I needed a bra -- and not sure if I even needed it at that point or I was just embarassed cuz everyone else wore one. LOL
Joy is a hairy little thing, too. I honestly do not know what to tell her sometimes cuz she has so much body hair -- and I have so little. All of my hair is on my head -- and I have a ton of it -- but you can barely see any hair at all on my arms and legs. Poor little Joy has hair everywhere. At least it is blonde on her arms and legs -- but not sure how long that will last.

Elyse got her first training bra about six months ago and was so exited! A little too excited. In fact, when her dad came home from work she went upstairs and came down wearing it. He NEARLY DIED of a heart failure and I heard him lecturing her that a bra is NOT a swim suit and we are NOT to show people! ROFL. Poor guy - he wasn't meant to have girls.
I don't think I'm going to tell him when she starts to shave her legs!!! It will really send him over the edge.
Thanks for all your suggestions.

I was in 5th grade, but I developed pretty early. I got my first bra in 4th grade.

I was 11 I think. I also had a training bra at age 9, but I don't know why, I surely didn't need one LOL

I started shaving just a few weeks before my first period, which is the only way I remember when I started shaving! I was 12.

I helped Kendra start shaving this summer, AND we bought her first bra. She just started 7th grade. She had actually avoided both things for a while (she has very little hair and no reason for a bra yet), but when she went to camp this summer, she was the ONLY girl who didn't do those things. Plus, she starts gym class this year where they have to actually dress out. So, we felt it was a good time to start.
It just about killed me though!

My oldest is 12 and in 7th grade. We're hairy. She started shaving last year, when it started in the arm pits, I couldn't deny it was time. She's got nothing up top though and honestly it makes her feel horrible to be so behind everyone else. There seems to be very few late bloomers around here.

Jenna just got her first training bras this summer (and needs them finally, she is the last of her friends to "need" one), and I know the shaving question is going to come into play soon. I honestly am ready for it, and ok with her starting if she wants to. She is also a hairy child, so much more than me. The hair on my legs still grow in so light, where as she is dark & hairy (her bio-dad is of Italian descent though).
She started waxing her very hairy eyebrows over a year ago, and we do maintain them, so yeah, if she wants to start shaving her legs, I will allow her.

I will have no problem with mine when they want to start either. I don't want them to be embarrassed, and when they need it, I'll allow it. Rae will probably need it at an earlier age than Amelia, because her hair is dark like mine, whereas Amelia is blonde.
A couple of years ago, I coached a kid in skating who was 11, and she OBVIOUSLY needed her arm pits shaved, and wore a sleeveless skating dress. I felt so bad for her, I mean, didn't her mom notice?

well I am a natural blonde so my hair was very light on my legs growing up so I did not start until well into middle school. My daughter has dark hair so I think I let her start around 9 or 10? When kids started teasing her about it. She was probably closer to 10 though. I told her to only shave to a little above the knee though...like basically right at the knee so I could sit with her when she shaved and make sure she wasnt pressing to hard or doing anything dangerous. After a few times she was ok to do it on her own

I wasn't allowed to shave until the summer before I went into 6th grade.

Mines 11. The decision to shave her armpits was mine because she has thick dark hair and it was time. I chose to let her watch me do it because every time I got close to her armpit to show her, she burst into fit of giggles... which eventually became annoying. She's thinking about shaving her legs, which i'm fine with, but she can make that decision and i'll help. As for the bra thing, we went got those when she was 10 because they wear white school shirts and it was more of a modesty thing. Now, she's grown into it.
The big worry for her is that all her friends have started their period and she hasn't. And they all seem to know what to do and she doesn't want to be unprepared

I've been wondering this same thing. DD is already wearing a bra on occasion with thin and lighter colored shirts and she's just 8. I hadn't even thought about the shaving thing until a couple weeks ago when she spent the night at my mom's house with my niece. They took a bath together and my mom came in the bathroom when my niece was hollering for a band-aid because she cut herself with mom's razor. Turns out they were trying to shave their legs. This is all coming sooner than I wanted it to . . .

I told my now 15 year old daughter that when she gets hair in her arm pits and needs to shave that, then she can shave her legs.

I had to buy my boy some back in the spring and he was only 9. I mean, he was stinky, and I didn't want him to get made fun of! LOL!
