Dearest Libby ...

We are going to the Wings over Whiteman Air Force Air Show (http://wingsoverwhiteman.com/) this weekend ... any chance I could talk you into recoloring or remaking or creating an add on to your Can You See Me Now? kit ... but for the air force???

https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/sweetshoppe/images/cache/aa1df05e5aa78ed4406b1ef3fca945f4.jpg (https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/sweetshoppe/product.php?productid=19238&cat=0&page=1)

....the colors of Air Force ... maybe an A-10 or a B2 Bomber? ... more dog tag items (maybe a dog tag alpha)??? My BIL works on the A-10s. My boys  Air Force aircraft.

I would be happy to spend time talking with you with additional ideas if you want ... PLUS purchase the kit! please please please!! Say yes, you know you want to! ;)

Pleasssssssssssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee????

P.S. Can anyone else use an Air Force kit??? blue camo and tan camo ???

The Air Force only wears blue in dress uniform, otherwise the are colors are the same as the Army (though they have been redone to be lighter than these). I use this kit for all my AF pictures, but I am a sucker for all things Air Force, obviously.

LOL Well considering I live with a man who is a retired 20 year veteran of the AF, I can assure you that I have already put lots of thought into it. ;)

Honestly, I don't know if I'll do it or not. Jeff is SO totally ocd and a perfectionist that if I were to do a kit about the AF, I'd need it to be absolutely 100% perfect. That scares me. I'll keep thinking about it though. I haven't ruled it out.

Have fun at the air show! Sounds like a great family time!

Actually, the Air Force has worn a camouflage with blue in it, although the Air Force members who were deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan were issued the Army Combat Uniform. When I worked in an Army Division HQ, the Air Force members we had working with us wore the blue camo uniforms.

I am Air Force, that's the uniform I wear everyday. They did test a blue tiger stripe uniform for a short while. It was a massive failure, especially among the troops.

i would love an Air force kit. My dad was retired air force and my husband works on the AFB where I was born, contracted civillian but he is still a jet engine mechanic and we go to a lot of air shows. Maybe just an AF add on would be cool?

Yeah, none of the AF folks I know liked that blue uniform. There are problems with the Army uniform, too. They figured out that velcro on the pockets isn't very good in a tactical situation where it's important to be quiet . I think the service who really got it right is the Marines. It would be nice if all the services wore the same uniform. I can only imagine how many $$ the US has spent designing and fielding all those different uniforms. Kinda makes me sick. *end of rant*

We don't have the velcro, but that was my first thought when they put it on the Army uniforms. I don't mind our new ACUs at all, but I hate our gortex jackets, they are thin (like do absolutely no good in the winter thin), have a hood in the collar rather than a real hood and they poof out around you (you end up with these ridiculous pooches everywhere). The uniforms have to cost a fortune to mess around with. I think they like to keep them different though cause everyone always thinks their branch is best and like it to be obvious to everyone what they are. :p

My bil wore the tan camo when he went to Iraq ... and when he served in Desert Storm if I remember correctly.

The last time my boys (keep in mind they are about 5'9" and 15/16 yo) went to an air show, I was pulling them around in one of these...

http://cn1.kaboodle.com/hi/img/b/0/0/1d/f/AAAAC-5jPF4AAAAAAB3zTA.jpg?v=1229963603000

I'd say they are WAYYYYY over due to attend an air show, wouldn't you?

...Libby... you don't have to SHOW him...I promise I won't tell!!

P.S. It would also give me something I could scrap for my BIL for Christmas!!! ... like his promotion to Master Sargent this year!!! ... and other pics my sis would have ... such as all these BEAUTIFUL OAK flag & memorabilia boxes that he makes for retiring officers.

I would love to see a kit like this.... I wish you would do one, Libby!!!

My Grandpa is retired Air Force (Vietnam era, no lie), and even worked on Air Force one. He collects model planes, and also has Christmas gifts and presidential memorabilia that I would love to scrap... a kit like that would be amazing.

I'll pass the congrats on to him ... it was a LONG time coming!

He makes them for the base he is at ... and does beautiful work.

Well I am hoping the weatherman is wrong ... he just said a 4 letter word about Saturday and Sunday that could put a wet blanket on the weekend!

Well, I'll add in that I could use it too and go back even further. My FIL was a retired AF Colonel. He was a fighter pilot during WWII (shot down at least 5 Nazi planes), got shot down twice and was a POW in Buchenwald. I wrote an article for Creating Keepsakes YEARS ago about making a military album and did several layouts about him. BUT...I never finished the album! And I have 5 AF albums I bought all those years ago that I was going to copy those layouts and add more and then give those albums to my DH's 5 siblings. How cool, and easy, and awesome, would it be to do them digi and just print them 6 times!

Well I can add that I'd bite! My DH does not wear blues nor does he wear the ABU's (did wear the BDUs when he was an ALO), but wears a flights suit. And the green camo just screams Army to me. So yes not tecnically the uniform, but the colors of a blue camo would go better with a USAF page. I promise not to be too nic-picky!!!

I started an Army album with my grandfather's pics from WWII ... and I have pictures of their aircraft ... if I remember right he was in England. All B&W pictures. I was paper scrapping back then ... and couldn't find the papers that would go with it so I started using Tim Holtz' alcohol inks and made my own CUSTOM CAMO papers for the layouts. ...turned out kinda neat ... but I never finished the album (if you can imagine making custom papers for every page...along with some other papers) ... I would love to make it digital now and just reprint for the kids. I have some really COOL memorabilia ... but not sure if you could just scan and use in digi kits or not ... think I have food stamps, army paper stuff they had to have on them, his dog tag, all kinds of stuff.

My bil served in Iraqi Freedom and I REALLY got into digi scrapbooking partially because of it ... I made him a 12x12" K&Company Air Force (it's blue!) scrapbook of layouts from pictures he took while over there. ...and it was so nice to just RESIZE the layouts on my computer to 8.5x8.5" and hit PRINT 3 more times so my boys could each have their own 8.5x8.5" K&Company Air Force (yep blue too) albums identical to their uncle's. ...and to think originally I was going to scrap that 4 times!! Nice thing is ... if his 3 daughters ever decide they would like a copy ... I can print again!

Yep I think a kit that uses the tan/light brown camo that most branches wear would be popular....my SIL is Air Force and like Mari said, that's what they wear every day.

But I do imagine they will be in blue at the air show unless they are flying, and I have all kinds of pics from my bro finishing basic traning I could scrap.... *hint* *hint* :p

K&Company Air Force (yep blue too) albums THOSE are the ones I have. I was drawing a blank at the company's name! I bought 6 of the 12x12 years ago and they are just sitting here.

I've already scanned in a lot of my FIL's memorabilia as I reprinted it all for the layouts I did for CK. I couldn't send in the originals and chance them getting ruined or lost. I have items like telegrams from when he went MIA and POW and even his document when he was captured by the Nazis - it's all in German. I would probably even re-do in digi those pages I have done because they are too interactive to even copy for all those albums.

Ok Libby ... please make your fans an Air Force kit! Tell that better half that citizens of the USA want to preserve the history of their families that have served their country!! It's a patriotic thing to do you know. ;-)

Wow all this talk has really inspired me ... I really want to work on my grandfather's WWII album again!! ...and his has the planes in it ...

...and the GREAT NEWS is that my bil has invited us to come out TODAY (with 0% chance of rain until tonight) to watch the practice flights. ... the rain chance has dropped to 40% Saturday and supposedly no rain on Sunday ... but dh told me not to take any chances and just get out there today! I'm excited to take pictures because I have my Rebel ... last time I went out there ... I think I had my FILM camera ... and it wasn't all that great.

Off to empty my memory card and charge up the battery ... I am going to take my 300 mm lens with me ... I am so excited!

PLEASE PLEASE Libby!

We are stationed on an AF installation and they do the tanish colored with the blue boots here. We also have Army soldiers here too (Husband and battles) they were the ACU's which don't even match the green and brown camo anymore.[My old BDU's matched well though] The colors are more of a sage green/slate blue/gray and then tan mix. I've pulled the colors from the pics several times and this is my average. :/
Oh and the government doesn't pay to re issue uniforms every time they make a new one.

Even though we are Army, I'm gonna cheer on the AF crowd here and say new kit, new kit, new kit :)

LOL Ok, Ok. I'll do it. I talked to Jeff about it last night, and I told him that HE is the reason I don't want to do it. It scares me knowing that it won't be perfect for him. He was SO excited though. I barely got through reading this thread to him, and he's throwing all these ideas at me. I had to explain to him that I *will* be taking some artistic liberties with this project, so not everything will be 100% accurate. He might know his stuff from an AF perspective, but I know it from a scrapping perspective. LOL. I think I need him to sign a waiver saying that he'll bite his tongue if we start butting heads. LOL

It'll be a few weeks before I can get to it as I already have a bunch of stuff lined up for the coming weeks. I'll add it to the schedule though.

Yay! Oh and remind him that the AF changed the regs and the uniform and everything else 85757586 times in the 12 years we've been in. So they take artistic license too...then just demand everyone follow. "Lets see morale is low...hey lets change the uniform so everyone will have to spend money on tailoring and stuff...then everyone will be so happy to be at work and we'll save the day!!"

Make him sign the waiver. I know how those military men are!

blue boots? Do you have a picture/link? The green is being phased in as the only thing allowed now, but tan is still allowed for the time being as its what they initially issued/sold.

No problem! I would love to help.

We were just in the field last month, I will grab some of those pictures cause I never, ever have pictures in my uniform. I usually run away from the camera, but I kinda decided it should look like I have been in at least since I first started as that was the last time I think I had a picture of me. lol

I JUST got home ... I have no idea HOW MANY pictures I took today at the air show ... but this thread sure had me looking closely at the uniforms!! We saw the navy, air force, and the army there today. I was surprised at the navy uniforms ... and the lady we talked to told me HOW MUCH SHE LOVES the new digi camo uniforms because the old looked like "prison clothing". lol She was a wonderful person to talk to ... the boys really loved asking questions (and so did I) ... and she asked the boys if they wanted to sit inside an F18!! She went over to a plane, opened the cockpit, and taught them how to climb up ... then stood out of the way so I could take a picture from the ground of them in the cockpit!!

I told my bil what she did ... and said well so far the Navy made their day ... do you think the air force could top it? wink wink ... well he took them for a tour of where he works on the A-10s...all the sheet metal stuff, sticker machines, all kinds of stuff ... and then got a staircase up to an A-10 and answered questions for quite a bit with them. They were happy. lol I asked Brian on the way home "well did you enjoy today?" ... he enthusiastically said YES DEFINITELY!

oh and at one point through the air show they did a re-enactment with some helicopter rescuses ... we were clear across the tarmac (spelling?) and he said "hurry mom hurry these will be good pictures" ...and my feet were saying 'no way Jose' ... so I handed him the camera and he took off. He was gone awhile and came back running saying "oh wow!" lol So will be interesting to see how my photos turned out ... but right now I am DOG TIRED! ...oh and the vendors were setting up for the air show tomorrow (we went on practice day) and one of them said "hey if you want a t-shirt, we are more than happy to sell to you today" ... so bought them each a Thunderbirds t-shirt! I guess Brian will be wearing his to robotics tomorrow. I am going to need to get up early and print him a few pictures or else just download to his laptop so he can show everyone.

Any chance of a navy kit too.:crying:

As far as the uniforms go, the new navy ones are taking some getting used to. I don't understand why there isn't just a standard cammy for the area you're in. Green for the jungle, tan for the desert, etc. Not many people are happy with the blue cammies of the navy, but oh well. I think the navy is tryng to streamline the number of uniforms they have. Hubby pretty much only has one that he wears all the time and then his varying dress uniforms.

ETA: yeah, the Marines are the only ones who seem to know how to do a uniform ;)

Well so much for posting a layout with the New Release from last week... I bought one with my Sweet Rewards and planned on scrapping it Saturday evening ... but my youngest got up Saturday morning and said he had such a fantastic time at the "practice" air show Friday that he really really wanted to go again Saturday morning (it's an hour away) ... so called my sister & bil to see if they were going ... hopped in the shower and got ready and took off ... was planning on coming home ... but that evening it started hailing and tremendous down pour so I didn't take a chance and drive home ... so no scrapping because laptop was at home ... but I got a ton more air show pics with a different lens and got some really great shots!

...plus my niece's *friend* got sworn in to the Air Force so I got shots of this for her. She was so tickled.

yay!!! Can't wait Libby!!
