Selling stuff online

We're having a yard sale next weekend, so we've spent THIS weekend going through my parents humongous attic. It's sickening that we spend so much money on stuff that we store in an attic when there are people in the world dying because they don't have enough food to eat or access to clean water.

But that is not the point of my post. :) I have some things, like unwrapped Creative Memories albums, that I would rather rot in my attic than to sell for a dollar at a yard sale. Does anyone have any experience selling things online?

I checked Craigslist, but there wasn't a lot available. I didn't know if this is because there is little interest in it or if it is because those things sell like hotcakes. I have never sold anything on EBay, so that kind of intimidates me. Are there other options?

I don't have experience selling online ... however ... do you have any 4x6" scrapbooks (I don't mean photobooks) ... that you can add pages to?? I've been looking for these for a long time.

You could check your local scrapbook place or local consultants if they know of when there is a scrapping sale. Around here, we have groups of ladies that get together and hold massive scrapbooking sale... I think getting a table is free and you are allowed to put out as much scrapping stuff as you want. Otherwise, for me scrapping is a hit or miss.. if you have a separate ad that you have scrapping stuff it goes over a lot better than if it's lost in a general ad.

We had that here at the beginning of the month ... I think it was $20 to "use a table" in the sale and they ran the whole thing ... problem is ... you don't get cash back ... it's a GC to use in the store on new stuff ... so unless you are into hybrid or use traditional scrapbooks ... it might not pay off ... unless they do give you cash back. I still use traditional scrapbooks so that is where my money goes ... and I was able to get my Silhouette SD with the GC one time...but I'm running out of things to sell.

generally anything we have sold on craigslist sold pretty quickly. I saw alot of ads last time I looked for scrapbooking stuff but it was like massive amounts and they were selling it all as one sale. Ebay is pretty self explanatory though. You just go through the steps and they have help options (I think) if you do not understand anything. I always used paypal only as any other method to me was kinda a hit or miss if I got paid. Alot of people would say oh I sent the money order or check or whatever and I would never get it so I just used paypal. Adding a good description of the object helps and if you have a set price in mind just use buy it now instead of auction style. Also if they still have the want ads/looking for section you can browse through there to see if anyone is looking for something you have.

Sometimes you can find local flea markets for a minimal entrance fee. Typically those places have lots of different price ranges. We did this last year and I sold all kinds of stuff ranging from $1 to $25...just depends on the item and how much you are willing to negotiate.

you can sell them on ebay and you'll get more than a garage sale - but shipping is so high it's hard to get much for even a brand new in shrink wrap album. I used to sell a lot on ebay - sold the majority of my paper scrap stuff that way - but now I don't really bother because with shipping, ebay fees and paypal fees I'm better off donating it and taking a tax write off.
