View Full Version : If you had the chance to meet an historically relevant person

...but were required to wait in a pretty big line, not be guaranteed access....all for 30 seconds to meet'n'greet along with your kids (likely no photo op)...would you do it? This person is important to our family, not just some randomly relevant person...but a person with significant meaning for our family.
Debating an opportunity, knowing that it'll be short, may not be remembered by the oldest, won't be remembered in the future by the youngest (except on the typical scrapbook page I'll have to do on it), but will be remembered by me always.

Do it! Or else you will have the what if? there forever. If it is important to you then that is enough.

i want to know why it's important :p
lol..
honestly. ME. I probably wouldn't do it if it meant dragging along kids who with the knowledge that we may waste a ton of time standing in line and never get to see the person ... ie have some really angry grumpy kids who will def remember the fact that they were annoyed and i wasted their time ^__^
like.
I'd like ce to meet the president (this is just my example here :p )because I think it's really cool for ce to see a biracial man who grew up to be the president.. I think it's inspiring and important for ce to see that- so he feel some sort of importance in himself. Would i wait in line knowing we might not get to? no.
So that's why I said It depends on the importance of said person ^_^ That's pretty important to me, but not THAT important :p

LOL... we did that for several characters at Disney World and they have no historical meaning. :) Do it!

Yes, I would do it if it was important to my family! I agree the kids would appreciate the pictures when they are older.
I would probably do it. Even for the kids who won't remember it, they'll think it's cool when you tell them later, "Hey, you met that person." My oldest feels that way about my grandpa, who died when he was about 4 months old. They only met once, and DS was only 2 months old. But, he loves to look at the one photo I have of the two of them together. And, he just lights up when I say tell him that that's his great-grandpa and that he did get to meet him once. If it's someone important to your family, it will be worth it.

Oh hard question. My kids are 1 and 6 and neither of them are even the least bit patient! Waiting in line with them for over an hour would be very torturing. Not only for them and me but for everyone standing close to us, lol! I probably would do it if I had just the older one with me, but definitely not with the baby. I'm not sure how old your kids are but the ones I've seen on your pages seem old enough to take with you. I would do it, especially if it's that important!

I guess it would depend for me on how long this big line would be and how likely it would be that I would be denied access. I wouldn't probably wait hours in line for a slim chance I would get to meet someone for 30 seconds. But if it's important to you, then I wouldn't worry about whether the kids will remember it or not. My parents took my sisters and I on vacations that none or only some of us remember and I don't think that takes away from the experience they had at all. Plus like you said, there will always be a scrapbook page to remind them, hehe.

hmmm.....for me thats a hard one, because my kids are the least patient little people on the planet lol. they would be nagging me and whining to NO END. but then again, i know i would kick myself if i didnt give myself the chance. so i'd say do it. maybe your kids are more patient than mine lol.

This is such a great question to ask me today, because Obama is here, just today for the G20 summit - I can choose to wait in a REALLY REALLY REALLY long line, with kids in tow for maybe a handshake and listen to a speech - By the way its outdoors and its really really cold - No matter what you think about Obama - he is a historically relevant person. Do I go - I opted out. I just didn't want to go through the security, all the waiting in the cold for a maybe and a canned speech - and I like the guy. Now if it was a town hall meeting this would be a totally different discussion! ;)

I was thinking that was who you were talking about! It will make a great scrap page and just use a stock photo of him and it will look great! It's all about the story anyway! :)

I totally thought this was gonna be a fun thread where we all said WHICH historically relevant person we would want to meet, lol.
I want to meet William Carey. I would TOTALLY wait in line to meet him if he was alive.

I wouldn't have. But I can't stand lines with kids (so explain why we're going to Disney World at the single most busy time of the year...).

I have to say that I can't think of anybody living who I would do it for. I have a cautious approach to politicians and no celebrity would be worth it for me. I could think of a couple of people (some writers and one Slovak humorist) in whose case I would feel honoured for the opportunity to speak to them, but I wouldn't stand in a line, with kids on top of it, for anyone. At least I think so now.
Still, that's great that you've had a cool experience like that that MEANS something to you and your family. :-)
