View Full Version : How do you display your Xmas cards?

Two years ago I used a card holder from Southern Living and last year I used mini clothespins to attach the cards to our blinds in the breakfast nook area. I'm not sure if that'll work this year so I'm looking for other options that are a little more exciting than just clustering them on the fireplace mantel.
Ideas?
Thanks! :)

I saw a really awesome way but I don't have a link... let me try to describe it..
You take some thick craft wire and thread a bunch of alligator clips or binder clips onto it.. then curl the ends a bit and attach them to your wall (with tiny nails or even those 3M removeable hook thingies) then just put a card in each clip so that it sits on there open.. If you get more cards, just add a 2nd row :)

I have a wire mesh wreath that I have added a few ornaments to and some beads and a string of lights and use mini clothespins on it.

I just put up two large ribbons on both sides of our picture window in the family room and then I use clothespins to clip the cards to it. Simple, but it works and the ribbon is pretty. :)

I like these ideas a lot! I used to line them up on a holiday table that I pull out just for Christmas time but... my darn cat!

i dont usually get any lol. i dont usually send too many out either haha. but i like the twine or the wire idea; just clip them to it.
i miss the christmases we had when i was a kid, before my grandparents passed. EVERYONE got together. now, its pretty much just immediate family. my mom, my brother and my dad and us. :( (but not my mom and dad together, they're divorced lol. separate occasions lol.)

We normally just tape them to the basement door, but I love all the ideas everyone has posted! I think I might try something new this year!

I always decorate the railing around our stairs with garland and lights. Last year I added beads and ribbons in a sort of swag pattern, and planned to use clothes pins to add the cards to the ribbons. Then I got sick and never bought the clothes pins, lol. But that's my plan for this year. I like seeing them all up and out in the open.

Yeah, those are from Ikea. I started to buy one on Tuesday, but it was too long for what I was planning on using it for in Keira's room.
They're $15.

Last year, I tucked them into the Christmas tree & photo cards went on the fridge.
I'm thinking something different this year...
In our old house there was a pillar type thing that separated the dining room/entry way, I would string lights around it & tuck the cards into it.
Great thread - I need ideas too! We're in a new house this year, so I need new ideas. For now, I think I'll place them along the ledge in our basement. Or maybe on the shelves above the fireplace.

I usually put ours on the ledge between the kitchen and dining room (where we have a pass-through) but I'd really like to do the wire idea... I'd probably put up something permanent like that so I can hang photos & my kids' art on there all year round. It's a nice idea :) better than putting everything on the fridge where it flies off everytime we close the freezer door! lol

We use this for school work: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20079342 and the other one for the playroom curtains.
I want to get this: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/tree-card-holder/?pkey=cdecorative-holiday-decor
For now I just tuck the cards in around all the garland I have going across the bookcases and tv console.

oh, love that pottery barn one!!
So... is it bad that I do nothing with ours? We don't get a ton, but enough to display I guess. most are photo cards though. I don't know, maybe I just need a good way to display them because it can look messy or cluttery to me!
One day I want to make this: http://shop.arttoheart.com/product.sc?productId=540&categoryId=2
(the Christmas tree on the right... the tree has "pockets" to tuck cards in)

save your $ on the PB one - cards/pictures just don't stay on like they should (or at least that's the case with mine).
Joana, Kirklands has a metal Christmas tree that hangs on the wall and I think has clips on it for that? Haven't seen it up close but it was in an email flier.
I saw this great Thx idea on a blog and thought it'd be great for hanging cards if you could find a big enough frame. Something similar in the PB catalog for alot more $ of course:

Yes. this - ours are with 3M hooks (hidden behind an ornament bow thingys) - on both sides of the entry hall near the front door.

I wish we did something exciting and stunning, but we don't... we tape them on the back of our front door, so when the door is closed, you can see them from the inside.
After the season, the general cards get tossed, and the photo cards of family we save and sometimes frame (cutting off the "card" part and keeping the photo part), and photo cards of friends stick around on the back of the door a little longer before they get tossed, too.
I'd love to do something about recycling the cards, but my mom just figures it's not worth the hassle.

That is exactly what I have in my dining room that holds my Coca Cola curtains that I made.
I don't have a pic of what I use ... but basically is foam core board ... with Christmas fabric wrapped around it .... ribbons criss crossing on the front of it and held in place behind with staples...the front where the ribbons criss cross has those furniture tacks ... then I tuck the cards behind the ribbons. I think it was something on a Martha Stewart show years ago.
