View Full Version : Organizing - Designer Collabs

I'm sure this question has been asked before but maybe it's been awhile and we can revisit it for ideas and tips.
When two or more designers here at SSD have a collab, how do you organize it in your stash? I never know where I want to put it! I wind up putting it in one designer's folder but then I may not remember to look back there when say I need to do a layout with the other designer's product (for a team req., etc.).
I really hate to put it in BOTH places.....

All of my SSD kits are in my SSD folder and alphabetically by the name of the kit. It's just way easier for me to do it that way otherwise I would be too picky and anal about what kit goes where.

You can always just put the preview in the 2nd designer's folder. That way it gives you a heads-up, and you know where it's stored.

I have a separate folder aside from each designer's folder that is just for scoops... though, I'm not sure it's the most efficient... what about putting a preview of in each of the designers' folders? but then keep it in a collab folder

Duh. I never thought of doing it this way. You're a genius.

Ditto that! I love Heather's idea of putting them in a Designer Collab folder and then the preview in each participating Designer's folder!
Now to get that organizing done!!

I organize SSD kits by DesignerName_KitName within the same big folder so that I can see everything at once but can still go straight to a designer's kits. Scoops are named Designer1'sName_Designer2'sName_Kit, with designer 1 being the one I buy from more often. Anything that has more than 2 designers I just label Collab_KitName.
Like Darcy, I put previews where I need a reminder. For example, I copy a holiday kit's preview to my holiday folder and for a kit that has good wordart I'd put a copy of the preview in my wordart folder. If I ever separate SSD designers into different folders (which is unlikely) I'd use previews to remind me about collabs.

This is what I do as well. Darcy's idea is brilliant!

I have a "collabs" folder in my SSD folder. I do like the idea of adding the preview to each designers folder though, I might have to steal that idea :) Thanks Darcy!

I put the name of whichever designer I use more often first. All of my SSD kits are together in one pot except for La, Zoe & Dani. A collab with any of those girls goes in her folder.

When I download a kit, I rename it (the kit AND the preview) with the kit name, the store, and the designer name. If there are two designers, I put both names, if more, then I put "Collab" instead of the designer name.
ie: ALL THAT'S FUNKY Sweet Shoppe Traci Reed Meghan Mullens
If the designer changes stores, I can just go back and do a search for their name, then do a FIND and REPLACE to rename all their kits with the new store name.
Then I sort like this:
ALL PREVIEWS: A copy of all kit previews go in here, then I can sort by store name and/or designer.
PREVIEWS BY THEME: I also put a copy of all the previews in this folder by themes (birthday, holidays, kids play, etc.). Then I can sort them by store AND designer if I need to.
ALL KITS: Just that. All the actual kits go in here.
This way, if I need to use a kit by a certain store, I can sort that. Same with a designer. And, if I'm looking for a COLLAB, I can at least sort the preview folder by store, then collab, and find it.
This might be redundant, but I never have to search for anything for more than a few seconds.

I organize by designer unless it has more than one! I have another folder for '2 scoops' and another for collabs.

Alphabetically by designer last name unless it's for one of my teams. So, for example, if the kit is a KCB/La collab, it goes into Kristin's folder labeled thusly: Kit Name w La.
