I am so on the fence about christmas. Do I get my almost 5 year old a DSI for christmas? She is a girl and loves princess and stuff. She has a leapster and plays it all the time, which I am willing to give to my younger daughter because she likes to play with it too. What is the differnce between a DS Lite and a DSI? Do they play all the same games? What games would a 5 year old be able to play, she isn't reading yet, can pick out some sight words but that is all. She handles the leapster really well with not much help, can someone help please. Thanks

I was planning to get my son a Wii for Christmas, but someone on here reminded me that he will only enjoy imaginative play for so long before he gets into video games, so since he had not asked for a video game system, I decided to wait until he did ask.

My girls are most likely getting DS Lites for Christmas this year... The difference between the two - ds lites play ds games and gameboy games. dsi has a camera, built in wifi, plays ds games, but doesn't play gameboy games. There are lots of cool games for ds. My girls love any mario games, and especially the littlest pet shop games - they are packed full of mini games, and my girls who are 5 had no trouble figuring them out when they got to play them.

I would definitely just go with a DS Lite for a 5-year-old. We bought our almost 5-year-old one for Christmas last year and she loves it. She plays Tinkerbell, Disney Princesses, and High School musical, but she seems to like her brother's games better like Yoshi's Island, Zelda, Mario Cart. As far as I am aware, she did fine with them even though she really didn't know how to read at the time (a lot of them don't require much reading).
